limit myself by not buying something overpriced? and is not just overpriced, is also a ****ty thing, since we cannot transfer songs/videos without update it, thats the limit about forcing someone to do what they wont, without caring about with the customer.

I prefer spend "this money" in a nexus 7, or something better...probably in ps4, you cannot turn on the system if a new update is detected (its only thing they forgot to do, to force a update...)

It has to show up at E3 first. The soonest would probably be Q4 2013. Same goes for Microsoft.

Yes, you are limiting yourself. You are limiting what games you will be able to play. The Nexus 7 is nice and all, it's big brother Nexus 10 even better, but neither will have a good game line up, other than some crappy mobile ones. Nor will it get the block buster franchises that Sony owns.

I am all for hacking, but we have to remember that consoles are not supposed to replace your pc. Gaming consoles have only one main purpose and that is to play games. Everything else is secondary.

For me the problem lies in the fact that, should I choose not to update firmware I can't even do that. I can't play movies, I can't play games, I can't use any of the core functions I paid for. Let's take bluray playback on the ps3 as an example. If, for whatever reason, I choose not to update firmware then at a certain point new bluray movies will no longer work on it. It demands you update your firmware to get new required keys or some such silliness. Now I take the same bluray and put it in my 4-5year old(never updated) Sony bluray player and it works fine. So, not only is it a forced update but yet another example of big brother telling me what to do, how to use my console, how to live my life and generally trying to force me into doing things their way. Well, perhaps I'm being a drama queen here, but I object to that. It's a matter of personal liberty.
I can accept that I lose some functionality should I choose not to update...things like added features or the ability to use online play. But losing the core features of the system, turning it into a very expensive brick, just isn't acceptable to me. I can almost hear them screaming from behind the screen...CONFORM!!! CONSUME!!! CONFORM!!! CONSUME!!!
It's sad that we should HAVE to hack our systems just to maintain features we like, experiment with our systems, or get functionality back.
So where are we left when we can't even play the games the system was meant for?

@go-kun Even if it sounds like a drama-filled rant(?), I agree with 100% of what you said. If they force you to update to continue to use standard accessories such as BD Player, then what else is left but TO hack it?
