It'd be kinda funny if $ony admitted they're losing their nerves with something like this. I don't believe they are. It's just silly media hype.

Kevin Butler, where are you to make a joke out of this...
Yep, a solution like OtherOS will probably never be included again. Not only because of the OtherOS debacle that happend (the removal and the Geohot hack concept using OtherOS), but also that it didn't turn out to be a big selling point in general, at least thats my impression. There was also a rumor (or maybe confirmed?) that Sony included OtherOS in an attempt to sell it as a computer to get lower taxes in Europe, but it didn't work. I'm not sure if this is true though, but if they don't get any tax cuts because of it, it would mean one less reason to include it again.

As for homebrew support on PS4, i think a XNA (that excist for Xbox 360) and Playstation Mobile type solution is more likely. That you pay i.e $99 a year and you get a SDK which lets you make games and apps. If there will be any homebrew support at all that is.

Regarding USB transfer, i'm pretty sure this will be included. This was not a security risk on the PS3 as far as i know, especially not for videos, music and pictures. Copying savegames could be used a bit for leaderboard hacks etc. in some Call of Duty games to begin with, but this was not really a threat to the PS3 security itself. I'm not 100% sure regarding savegames and USB transfer on PS4, but for video, music and pictures i'm 99.9% sure

I'm also pretty sure that a internet browser will be included. I think that both Microsoft and Sony will go with a more multimedia type console with Xbox 720 and PS4. Then a browser is almost a must-have in my opinion. The PS3 browser is based on Webkit, i think it will be the same in PS4. I think it will run more smooth due to more powerful hardware. Maybe it is better optimized as well if PS4 use a more standard CPU architecture other than CELL. But only time will tell.

I have no idea if a recover menu will be included again. But if i should guess, i think Sony will incorporate efuses. If i'm not mistaken, this makes it much harder (or maybe even impossible) to downgrade the firmware. Xbox 360 uses efuses. In this case, having a recovery menu might be included. Sony didn't drop the recovery menu on the Vita at least.

Next year will be very interesting, hopefully both PS4 and Xbox 720 is out within 2013

EDIT: Hm, regarding efuses, it says in the Wikipedia article that PS3 uses efuses. Does anyone have some more info about this?

Yes, you are limiting yourself. You are limiting what games you will be able to play. The Nexus 7 is nice and all, it's big brother Nexus 10 even better, but neither will have a good game line up, other than some crappy mobile ones. Nor will it get the block buster franchises that Sony owns. ...
I'm not addicted to anything, so, whats the problem with don't play a game...better things to do nowadays...

You do not have to be addicted to anything. You are limiting your library of potentially fun and great games. That is the point. Sony has pretty much the most extensive library of exclusive game franchises.

The only thing these companies understand is money. We have to speak with our wallets. But there are too many people who don't have self control or are dazzled with console exclusives and shiny "new" graphics. But see, it's not that simple, not everyone is tech saavy. There is a market for console owners obviously. They just want to pop in a game and play.
If these companies keep giving watered down crap, taking away things, restricting play of used games, inserting ads/commercials in to our games, then simply put, don't give them your money.

Well each network has their *methods* to **** you up with memberships but Live (Microsoft) is the more ****ed up one i see for a long time.

I can understand maybe (idk) they have more users on their network/s and that why you have gold, silver, brown (SIC) memberships subscription to purchase but sucks the thing that you buy some legit game on Xbox360 that has MP like mass effect 3 special edition (with the dlc's and all that ****) and you have 2 FRIGGING days of trial = GOLD to use them.
Then you are ****ed.

On the other side i did not *see* that happen on PSN, not mentioning how the network looks and the problems that they had in the past well i see sometimes better to use PSN than Live.
Why? it's cheaper at the end and you get less wallet-raped.
I purchase a game that has MP and i don't have to worry about that **** of being gold/silver/etc.
You got PLUS and that's all it with PSN.

Don't get me wrong (i own the two of them ps3/xbo360), not bashing Xbox360 tough so don't jump to my neck for stating what i think is true.
It's obvious they are after making more money and the abusive/compulsive COD gamers are the prime targets.

@hello345 , on PSP for example, I'm able to run CFWE (5.03) just by running a picture exploit.

So if $ony remember this old exploit that if somehow it could be made similarly for the PS3/PS4 they'd remove the ability of managing files for pictures too.

First off, it happend very late in the PS3 lifecycle. The PS3 is now about 6 years old now. It would be different if it got hacked very early in its lifecycle. The hacks also currently only work on firmware 3.55 or lower.

Sony managed to block the PS3 hacking pretty good for about 1.5 years. It wasn't waterproof, cracked/fixed eboots got released over this period of time and there was also the TrueBlue dongle. But it wasn't as open as it is now. This resulted that several of people upgraded from 3.55 because they were tired of waiting to play new games. This means that less people are on firmware 3.55 or lower today. If i should take a wild guess, i'd guess that less than around 1% (or maybe even less) of all PS3s that excist today are on firmware 3.56 or higher.

Of course downgrade is possible on older PS3s, but it requires you top open the PS3 and you need a hardware flasher. This limits the appeal in general compared to just doing a simple software hack or firmware file install.

There are also people who will use CFW for homebrew only and buy all the games they want to play as well.

So overall, i'd say that the PS3 hacking will have very little affect on the PS3 business. If the PS4 is being pushed forward, i'd say that it is mostly because to release before the Xbox 720, or release it at a similar time as the Xbox 720.
3.55 or lower I think ?

I see. Speaking of this, i do remember that there was some early PS3 hacking attempt using a .tiff picture file, but it never developed into anything serious. Sony didn't remove the possibility to install firmware via USB even after the 3.55 hack for example. I'd be surprised if it wont be possible to transfer pictures to the PS4 using USB, but only time will tell There will most likely be a big focus on security on PS4, i think we can say that with big certainty at least.

I expect Sony to rush out Orbis with the turn of events. PS3 will be the last console I'll buy. PC Gaming for me. I wish PC gaming had a racing franchise on the same level as Forza or GT5.
iRacing, rFactor?
