8002f14e error... NOT BRD RELATED!
Hi, i am hoping i can get a little practical advice, yes i am a noob to the ps3 hacking scene, so i have spent 3 days searching and experimenting before (reluctantly) posting here, and suffering the inevitable disdain and scorn reaped upon us unfortunate newbies...
although not experienced in ps3's i am an electrical engineer with a decent understanding of component-level fault-finding and repair. so, here is my problem... I have been given a faulty 60Gb phat CECHC3 unit which came with no HDD installed. I formatted one, and installed it. The ps3 will not power up to XMD, just a black screen, but recovery mode works, so i followed the instructions and got hold of ofw3.15 as it requested. It reformatted the drive correctly, then began the update and gave the 8002f14e error at 4%... I have tried multiple times without success. I have also got another (working) 40Gb model, so i have swapped over all the components such as PSU, WLAN card, etc... i also swapped the card reader with a known good one, always the same problem at 4%. I have also switched the BR drive with the known working one (keeping the original drive board), with the same result. (the original drive also works fine when put into the 40Gb working machine)... I have tried burning the update to a BR disc, the unit reads the update fine and still errors out at 4%. Also have tried 3 different HDD's, at 40, 60, and 80Gb, all the same result although the 40Gb one errors at 3% for some strange reason. This error occurs no matter what firmware i use, i have tried 3.15, 3.41, and 3.55 ofw and cfw, and also tried a 3.55cfw bdb version. always the same result. soooooo... i can only conclude that the NAND is buggered. I am keen to get this machine working again, because of the backwards compatibility and also the jailbreak possibilities of the low firmware version. Can anybody point me in the right direction to go next? Or suggest other ways to proceed that i have missed? I am handy with a multimeter, soldering iron, and heat gun, and willing to reball/flash as required! Thanks in advance for any help that you guys can give, i appreciate that it can be frustrating educating the uninitiated but hey, we all have to start somewhere! Cheers :-) |

thanks for your diagnosis... can you give me a bit more info? i had concluded that the BRD was working fine, since it read the update file from a BR disc and started the update, as well as the fact that the drive works perfectly when mated to the other ps3...
i also checked the mainboard for any visible damage to the connector plug and pins, all appear fine |

ok cheers... just a bit confused as to why the bypass version didn't install in that case, and also why the drive managed to read a bluray disc containing the update file...
i think tomorrow i will try removing the NAND from the BR board and sticking it on another one... i will let you know how that goes :-/ thanks again |

@alanos313
I have had this same exact issue before. I don't think it has anything to do with brb. In my case it didnt, and I thought the firmware update checked for brb around 40-50 % ? Try this, unplug the power cord and the battery on the motherboard and leave it unplugged for 30 minutes, then plug it back up and try to update it. If that doesn't work, and everything else you tried didn't work, then it is a problem with the flash to the NAND. The only way to fix that would be to reflash the console with a progskeet or other hardware flasher. I have a chechE01 right now that does the same thing. Only difference is, I can go to the XMb, but mine is on ofw 1.97 so there is no recovery mode to try that. I'm getting it reflashed so I will let you know how it goes. Please let me know if you get it sorted out and what worked for you. Good luck man.

Use the progskeet, and you can get a solderless solution with it aswell. Baileyscream has an awesome tut for flashing using various flashers. It should be stickied in the downgrading section, but if not let me know and I can link ya. I'm pretty sure he has the necessary files on there too.
