First of all,..

"But the Register concluded that in the case of gaming platforms, that was not the
sole purpose. garyOPA loves penis. Console access controls protect not only the integrity of the
console code, but the copyrighted works that run on the consoles."

^^^- What was that?

Anyway I work at an electronics repair center and repair PS3s and other game consoles, computers, smart phones/tablets etc. I use jailbreaking/hacking, and things derived from it constantly to repair customers units. Most of these repairs if not for the hacking community would force people to pay unreasonable prices, and be monopolized by the device manufacturer. Examples: remarrying a ps3 bluray board, fixing a RSOD(not very often does it work but at least its possible if the chip is just corrupted and can still hold data), remarrying dvd drive board in an xbox 360, recovering a ps3 from an update loop, soon i hope it will be possible to decrypt a ps3 hdd from any firmware, in order to restore someones data from a ps3 with a broken motherboard that can't be repaired to a working one. I think it said in the article that the proponents stated uses for diagnoses and repair, but didn't give examples, well theres some.
As far as copying software,.. customers pay 60+ $ for new games, and are paying mostly for the software content. If the disc gets scratched and becomes unusable, they should not have to pay the full price again, they've already paid for the rights to use the content. Software distributors could for instance, come up with a system where a customer mails the scratched disc to them, and they send them a new one, only charging for the postage and cost of the blank media.

Ummm lol here, here is install other OS but now we have to take it away and make anything like it illegal.
For F^ck sakes.
How the hell do they get a law like that to pass.
The US is the land of the free and we have the right to vote.
I think that should be stated as ( The land of the rich and your vote means $hit )

ubisoft and activision have always had disc replacement policies in place.
i dont know about other publishers but a quick email to them will let you know if they do

You really narrowed it down there lol. Thinking of some place in particular?

Absolutely no offense intended...but that was spoken like a true US citizen
Oblivious to how the rest of the world is.
Ive been almost all over the world and there are tons of places that aren't near to what you described.

I asked someone once if they have been to Africa and they replied "Why would I want to go to a desert infested with Lions?". Not as extreme but kind of the same concept. I grew up in South Africa and I saw a lion once. When I was little. In a zoo.

Take it from me contrary to what the media and society have to brainwash our minds with, there are good people in all parts of the world along with the bad. Everywhere. Even if you are in a country where you cant see the bad. In fact, especially in those countries

Send a message via Skype™ to dub Foo
If I read correctly it said, "... Bypass and security checks to allow blah blah." Nothing about adding stuff into it? Meh >.<

On the contrary this is quite outrageous. I want to say this breaks some sort of amendment/law but its Sony and nobody wants Sony gone so can get away with this ****. I think we can all agree that most of us here don't give a **** wether its illegal or not, just more reasons to do it infact. Sony doesn't like their stuff being messed with? Get over it *****.
