how is this even a comparison to a situation like that?
the corporations that run the servers are taking consumer money for a feature that should already be implemented into all copies of the game regardless i can see DLC piration being somewhat wrong but not online pass piration being at the end of the day they're cheating you out of money.
also not to mention " he should give you his money " most pirates wouldn't buy the game anyway if they couldn't pirate it.

Online passes where made to give money to the Devs and the Big corporations that Publish these games. If you Actually bought the game NEW It comes with an online pass.
Instead of Stealing it, Or Taking it, Or Buying it used.

If second hand games worked online and didn't require purchase of a new online pass code, then yes - we'd only be talking about enabling piracy then.

Online passes bought in purely to make cash for publisher, offer no additional benefit as for each copy, the online component has already been paid for. When buying a book, cd, dvd, bluray, second hand, you get the full meat of the product. There may be a few situations where you might miss out on a bonus code for a bluray that can be used online for a digital copy or something, but you get the main portion.

These days, with many games the online portion can be constituted as more than a bonus or gimmick. But an integral part to the game.

I welcome any hack to bypass the online pass troll tax.

@tjhooker73 they should put it in for free because they usually put a half-assed retarded story mode in for 5xs the price of a online pass not to mention they usually make used copies $5 less than a new copy and the online pass is $10 so technically they're taking a extra $5 from you for buying a used copy when they usually stop making new ones after a period of time. So you end up paying more sometimes for a used game than a new game for wanting to play online.

The money doesn't go to the developer. The developer has already been paid at release for their work. How many units the game sells will define whether that developer is contracted further, or let go. The number of online passes that are sold will have no bearing on if a developer is put out on the streets, so to speak.

Online passes are something that everyone disagreed with upon their introduction, now people seem to be accepting them as there isn't really a choice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the use of an online network should go unpaid for. I'm in favour of Xbox Live and paying for online. I do pay for it, I hardly even use Xbox Live but I will pay. For me, that's the same as paying for phone\electric\gas\water and so on.

You use it, you pay for it.

But there are online passes on these same games on Xbox Live. The infrastructure that is used comes at no expense to the developer as 90% of the time gaming on PSN\Xbox Live is peer based and no server is involved. The times there is a server, this has already been paid for, the person that purchased the game paid for it, and a person playing a second hand copy of a game will mean the original buyer isn't using that server.

This is simply a tax to put people off buying games second hand, and reeks of the same dirty cash extorting practices as day one DLC.

They would make you pay an extra $10 for an OFFLINE pass, if they could. The only reason they don't is because currently games on console don't need online activation to play.

What you're saying is quite interesting. Are you saying that if you just want the online component, you are paying extra for the offline component because that makes up part of the value of the product second hand?

Regardless of how everyone feels about cracking online passes, it is illegal and still piracy. You arent legally allowed to reverse code, so a topic like this is nothing more than a piracy discussion. Just because you guys buy used and give lamestop all the profits instead of the actual devs is your problem. You can thank retailers in the used games market for this exact reason.

It is piracy if you have to pay $10 to get it. Besides since we are being honest, how many of these passes are you wanting to crack for games you actually purchased.....anyone that says a number other than $0 is lying
