I'm looking on eBay now. Most drives don't come with a logic board, sadly.

Do you have to know if a logic board from a CECHA01 will work on a CECHE01 system? I know CECHA01 is a COK-001 motherboard and my CECHE01 is a COK-002.

If I can buy that one, I'll grab a BD-ROM from a CECHE01 and get to work,

You can downgrade and dehash like said above. With a OFW 3.55 PUP run through MFW builder to take out the bd check.

After you do it, though. You will not be able to play any homebrew or psn games. You need at least a working married bd logic board connected for that.

If you use your buddy's drive, and marry it to your ps3, you will only be able to use homebrew while the drive is connected.
Then you will have to remarry the drive back to his PS3, so I hope his is on 3.55.

EDIT - The only exception is cech-25xx and newer. The bd logic board is actually part of the motherboard. So you do not have to marry the board or have the drive connected.

My worst suspicions are true. Alright, well I'm not ruining a friends PS3 to fix up one of mine. I do appreciate all the info you all have contributed.

If you remarry a board to your PS3, it will not work anymore on the PS3 where it came from (unless remarried again but that would require said PS3 to be on 3.55 or lower).



Anyway there isn't much point in doing anything with a system without logic board since, well, you can't run any game/homebrew (even from HDD) without logic board.
