[TUT] DEX to Rebug 4.21 on a NAND PS3 with only a Preloader 3.1 NAND backup
Saw the Rebug REX release and I thought "**** yeah! I want a piece of that!"
The issue was, I had a NAND PS3 running DEX 4.21 so I had to go back to CEX. So, I thought **** it and tried it. I am now running Rebug REX 4.21! When the CEX2DEX method came out, I converted an old NAND I had been given as it was RSOD and I used Preloader to back up the NAND. This guide should only be used if you used Preloader to backup your NAND. This is what I did to go back to CEX: Please Note: I only turned off the PS3 by the back switch during the initial FSM stage. During the Preloader and Rogero stages, I used the front power button ONLY to turn on. Once in Rogero, I used the controller to shut down. Once in 3.55 OFW, how you turn it on/off shouldn't matter as it has already been converted and dehashed by then. I also formatted the USB stick each time I used it to ensure no rogue files etc. were present. Files used: 3.55 DEX Downgrader PUP = https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1364388683173.zip DEX2CEX = https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1364385509900.rar Contains: FactoryServiceMode.pkgRogero 3.7a (and the Lv2diag.self I used to install it) = https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1364386867503.rar PS3 OFW 3.55 = https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1362662452239.zip I haven't included any 3.55 CFW/MFW as there are plenty available. I used a basic Kmeaw 3.55 for this revert. 1. From DEX 4.21, place the 3.55 DG pup on your USB stick as "PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP" and install it to get back to 3.55 DEX. 2. Next, install DEX 3.55 MFW (I used itskamels pup) I installed this twice to ensure ros0/ros1 are correct to be on the safe side. 3. Once on a DEX 3.55 MFW, install and run "FactoryServiceMode.pkg" to enter FSM. Restart the PS3 and check you are in FSM. If so, turn off the PS3. 4. Put the "Preloader" extracted files onto the root of your USB stick along with the NAND CEX backup named "rflash.bin" and put it in the far right USB of the PS3. 5. Put the USB stick in the far right port and turn the PS3. Do not touch the PS3 at this moment as it is flashing the NAND!!!! It will turn off when flashed. FROM NOW ON, USE THE FRONT PANEL POWER BUTTON AND CONTROLLER TO TURN ON/OFF THE PS3 6. Put Rogero CFW v3.7a and the Lv2diag.self from the "Rogero_Lv2diag.rar" archive onto the root of your USB stick (no PS3\UPDATE folders!), turn the console on via front panel and wait for it to install Rogero 3.7. It will turn itself off once done. 7. Put Lv2diag.self (from "Lv2diag_exitFSM.rar") on to your usb stick and plug it into the far right port of the PS3 and turn console on via the front panel. Wait for it to turn off. 8. Turn on via front panel and you should boot to Rogero's V3.7. 9. Install "toggle_qa.pkg" via the "Install Packages" option on Rogero 3.7 and then run it. Verify QA works by going to the Network icon (do not enter it!) and do the following combo: L1 + L2 + L3 + R1 + R2 + dpad_down L3 is push Left stick down and dpad_down is press the directional pad down. You should see Edy Viewer etc. appear. The QA flag is successful if they do. IF YOU DO NOT SEE EDY VIEWER ETC, DO NOT CONTINUE!!!! ONLY CONTINUE IF QA FLAG IS SUCCESSFUL 10. Turn off the PS3 and restart in Recovery Mode For the following steps, PUP files are stored as "PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP" on your USB stick. 11. Install 3.55 OFW from Recovery Mode 12. Turn off PS3 and restart in Recovery Mode 13. Install 3.55 CFW/MFW from Recovery Mode. 14. Install Rebug REX 4.21 from XMB whilst on 3.55 CFW/MFW. For more info, please read itskamels guide here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=45719 Although this method worked for me, I will NOT be held accountable for any bricks. As with ANY type of hardware flashing, there is always a risk of brick. Proceed at you own risk. PLEASE NOTE: It's been brought to my attention that BR playback is borked after going from DEX to CEX on a NAND. I was able to recover playback as I had a copy of my DRL1 and DRL2 files from before I went to DEX. Multiman 04.11 fixes the Bluray playback issues. Dean has managed to sort this out by creating valid DRL hashes based on what is on the BR drive. Check the changelog of Multiman 04.11 for more info. Thanks
@JonahUK
hopefully this will help many people that used my guide to switch to DEX on NAND. Since my attempt to make a DEXtoCEX guide ended in me bricking some months ago =P. Now I have a new NAND CECHE01 ps3 but I will not mess with DEX again until I get a Progskeet and learn how to use it.
SeeYa!

Thanks guys. First tut as well!
Anyway, it was a nervous time for me as I only had the one hackable PS3 so didn't want to brick. With the Rebug release and the fact that DEX 4.30 is supposed to be bricking converts or at least stopping DEX converts from progressing past 4.30 DEX, it seemed going back to CEX was my only option. |

The preload NAND dump is different than the Multiman one? And does this method format the HDD?

All my stuff was still on my HDD when I installed Rebug REX 4.21 so no, no format was performed. |

I successfully flashed my PS3, but the colors turned green, yellow, and then red all flashing on me, as I have never seen my PS3 do a yellow light. When I saw that, I thought I was phucked, but it started up and did the initial setup so I breathed again, now installed REBUG REX 4.21 with no worries.
Thanks much for all your help @JonahUK in the other help thread, and thanks so much @CaptainCPS-X for the many months of the use of psudo-DEBUG unit. And also many thanks to all who helped make all of this happen. (The Three Musketeers, you guys are the free PS3 Scene's unknown heroes!) So this is confirmed to work with the NAND PS3 systems that were converted with the CEX->DEX guide of @CaptainCPS-X . Model#: CECHA01

When I bricked my PS3 I was using the exact same steps as you. Except I didn't do step 1 , but I used it's itskamels MFW to go back to 3.55DEX and only installed once, after I did step 5 it YLOD on me.... I wonder what I did wrong? |
