Does a CECHB01 v4.30 have any value?

I'll be honest, I'm not interested in jailbreaking, downgrading, hacking or anything else... All I'm really interested is turning on my console, and playing the occasional game, but I know quite a few people are.

I mentioned to someone that I have an original launch, 20gb "fat" PS3 with the Emotion Engine and he promptly told me that it was considerably more valuable than the slim ones.

The thing is, I don't care (covered that already). I do, however, need a controller, but before I drop $55 on a controller, if I can make enough to buy a new Slim, well, hell... I'd be set.

So, is it worth pursuing selling my 20gb, or is it just not worth enough to matter? The unit itself is in great shape, all original, no scuffs, never YLOD'd, etc.

I searched the forum, as well as things on the Internet, and I never really get a concrete answer.

Depends on the buyer. The 20GB is valuable in that it has fully PS2 Compatibility, but is missing wifi. NAND flash (older) consoles require a little more work to downgrade than NOR flash (newer ones) ones though.

You may be able to get close to the cost of a new slim, but being on 4.30, I do not think you will be able to get as much as a new slim costs.

Fair enough, that's what I was afraid of. I got pretty giddy when I see people throwing around $600+ numbers, but expected the reality of it was going to be much more grounded.

So, the sole selling point is the hardware backwards compatibility, then? I'd read about SACD compatibility, too, but I figured that was pretty much a dead end for everyone, anyways.

I've also heard people say it was rarer than the 60gb launch, but that doesn't really mean anything except to the rare guys who obsessively collect that junk.

Long story short, might as well buy a new controller and run this 'til PS4 hits?

If you live in the US you should put an add on Craigslist to trade for a new slim. I guarantee there are people looking for one that can be jailbroke

It's rarer, but it also is the lower end launch PS3. Missing some of the features that are standard on the 60GB and newer consoles.

It's not worth that much, but it is still worth more than your run of the mill 40/80GB or slim PS3.

Getting a good price for a fat bc PS3 is all about finding an ignorant person who has never heard of YLOD.

Because there are very few fat PS3s left that haven't had YLOD yet or won't get it in the next few months.

You have a time bomb there, or if you hurry up and find the right fool, a nice pile of cash.

Hey, wanna buy a fat PS3?

Seriously, though, I'm gonna go post on CL to see if I can find a willing partner to trade with, or go find 25 topics of note in the OT to weigh in on so I can post a classified.

One last question, is anyone willing to give a fair price range to ask for this thing? Some of you have said, "close to a slim," which lists for $249.

So, $200, or should I go for more?

Thanks for any and all help, btw.

I bought a 20GB CECHB01 - YLOD model for $45

Yes it needs repair and restoring but i am going to take this apart and restore it and repair it. I collect these and I own a 60GB CECHA01, 80GB CECHE01 and I bought my new 40GB CECHG01 so all of mine look great, but this is heavily scratched and dirty I am going .to fix it up, recoat the plastics with a clear coat paint that works with plastic and probably just display it. I like the All black model

I have 3 jail-breakable ps3's. 2/60G and 1/80G. I have 2 sold for $200.00ea and another potential buyer for the last one. All were original launch consoles still virgins. So I'd say 2 bills is a good starting point.
