This is definitely for PS2 titles on PSN which seems applicable/targeted for the PS3 (as the job ad requested experience on the PS3 and Linux/Unix environment). It'll most likely gel over to the PS4 as well.

If Sony want to be really nice, when they get this emulator done properly, they should allow users to play with their original PS2 discs...instead of forcing all to re-buy the same game in .pkg format.

I think this could be for getting PS2 games running using only software Emulation Without the need to Create Expensive Custom hardware (Emotion engine chip) Possibly Making an Engine that is compatible with most Systems (PsOne, PS2, PS3) Possibly PS3 Cell Processor Engine Emulation.
Just my guess For BC on PS4...

But this is $ony we are talking about here, they wont allow us to do anything with their precious PS3 consoles.

TBH I am surprised they have not forced us to give them back the consoles seeing as we've actually bought a license; but even they know they will get a backlash by everyone if they did that; maybe in a decade or so when people have been more accustomed to being ripped off and have features stolen from them from the company they bought them from, maybe then they will try to get the hardware back after a year, forcing customers to subscribe to a console, not o̶w̶n̶ lease a console.

Maybe they want to make the software emulator less of a PoS?

I love their requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

PS2 platform experience: Have worked on one or more PS2 titles.

PS3 development experience: Worked on one or more PS3 titles.

Me and my brother in law don't have all of these (I've got the Bachelor's in computer science, but that's it). And yet, here we are, emulating the PS2 better than Sony can. I did like their last preferred skill "Interest in video games and/or emulators."

It's just Sony being delusional again as always.

1st. I doubt there is a single person in the planet meeting those requirements.

2nd. I doubt even if there was one that he would apply, he has much more potential in other more fortunate jobs than serving Sony as a slave.

3rd. Even if they would loosen up the requirements and beg PCSX2 team to help them they would not because they don't want to have anything do with with corrupted people, something that I bet they know and hence why they haven't done it themselfs so far.

Sony, you had your chance already 5 years ago to do what you just did and you failed because you didn't even try, but this is what happens to the greedy one, it's already too late, people are already unpleased by you and it's already the end of "PS2 Emulation on a newer generation console" concept.
Since you show that you don't care, what was the reason for your costumers continuing to care? They moved on with their lifes without your greediness and went back to their PS2s an buying different consoles etc. It's about time to admit an epic defeat you know? And yes, the end of PS3's era is way too late to change your mind...

What are you talking about? Where do you think PS2/PS3 games came from? Magic? Handed down from god to an EB Games employee on a mountain top?

I'm sure any dev that's worked at EA, Square, Activision, Bethesda, Konami, etc, etc, etc, in the past decade probably meet the requirements.

And although it sucks to be a Sony customer some (okay a LOT) of the time, that really doesn't reflect what it's like to work at Sony. Unless you know someone who works there, how can you just assume it would suck? It's probably a pretty sweet gig, IMO.
