That's because you need a CFW with SS patches
![]() I read a lot of tutorials but not-qa console always had to go through FSM to go back to CEX! Did you flash your old CEX dump with preloader\hw flasher? That can be done but it's dangerous

@Brenza
From 4.21 DEX I used the 3.55 DG pup to get back to 3.55 DEX. Then installed OFW 3.55 DEX and then installed itskamel 3.55 DEX (twice to ensure ros0/ros1 were correct) so I could install the FSM pkg. Used the FSM pkg to get into FSM, used Preloader to flash back my NAND back up I used Preloader as (imo) it's better to use the method that created the backup to write the backup back to the NAND. Once flashed back, installed Rogero 3.7 via FSM, booted up Rogero, installed QA pkg, flashed CEX OFW 3.55 via recovery, flashed Kmeaw 3.55 via recovery, flashed Rebug REX 4.21 via XMB whilst on Kmeaw. Never formatted my HDD during any of the process. Full steps are here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=45786 Last edited by JonahUK; 11-06-2012 at 06:06 AM. |

Thanks, like i thought :D
But i've to say that flashing the whole flash is a lot more dangerous than writing only the 192 bytes of EID0! If something goes wrong with the preloader you might be unable to recover without an hw flasher |

@Brenza
The mM method wasn't available when I went to DEX. Some of the guys have gone back to CEX using my method without bricking so I'm happy that it works. Last edited by JonahUK; 11-06-2012 at 07:28 AM. |

Anyone try this on a NAND console yet? I have an original 60gb, with a broekn blu-ray drive. Thats why I rent to DEX originally so I could load games discless that I couldn't load at all before. Now that rebug has come out with REX that also allows this just while on CEX at 4.21 I would really like to switch. I currently don't have my original flash dump, or eid0 so this method seems like the best shot. I tried following an earlier guide but whenever I tried to write anything to dev_flash I would freeze my ps3. The options to allow writing to dev_flash are gone, and when I used comgines file manager in advanced mode it did the same thing and froze up. So hopefully this works well with Nand.

@haz367
All my stuff was still present from being on DEX (which was good for me). When updating through FSM on a NAND there is no reason to for the PS3 to format the drive as the whole firmware is stored in the NAND, not on the drive. That's my take on it anyway, probably 100% wrong (probably am!!!) but I went from DEX to CEX without a brick so I'm happy. Others have commented on my tut thread that they didn't brick using my guide so that's a bonus! |

thx for the reply and confirm
yeah indeed NAND installs on flash, maybe that's the reason, OR because i noticed the FSM-MOD.pkg atleast had a diff MD5 checksum as the one from Crashserious?and people stuck on NAND should indeed..well i would follow either ur guide or the one from carldenning, both tested&working for NAND, not claiming THIS wont work ofcourse..atleast they have a variety of choises

So, hum... I tried your method, and I believe I did everything right. I ran qa_flag_extra and I'm still in a black screen for 10+ minutes, no beeps. My console is on, the green light next to the usb ports is on. I have my controller on the left usb slot and my flash drive on the right usb slot. Can I restart my console? Can I install the cex fw from the recovery menu? I'm pretty much bricked? D:
I don't know what to do ): My console is a CECH-2501A (NOR). I don't know if this changes anything, but I was using the latest TB fw (and then obviously changed to other CFW) before going DEX (Rogero), which was working perfectly. |
