so the verdict is this is crap? I read all the posts but they are back and forth. I have a console that i dont really care about since it was free, and i have an e3 installed in it currently. I would give this a go if i could figure out where the link for the necessary patch and wiskeet are. The whole damn thing is in french so i cant seem to find it. Also, the ps3 i have doesnt havent a married/working bd drive in it, so im not even sure i could update to the rebug firmware. Anyone have the links?

Edit...I found the files and have patched my dump. I am going to give it a go and let y'all know what you probably already know which is....complete failure, PERMAbrick before I do this, does anyone know if I could even install rebug without the bd drive board? Or should I try a different cfw to see. Either way I'm sure to kill the damn thing, but I like to have all my ducks in a row before slaughtering them all.

This has always been possible on any PS3 that DOES NOT check for *.2 files.. (2500 series date code '1C' and above all DO check for *.2 files). You could also just hardware downgrade to a patched 3.55, dehash syscon and install 4.** cfw.. Either way would work.

So it seems this will not work with 3K/4K Versions

So does anyone know if the rebug firmware they are talking about can be installed on a ps3 with no married or non working bd drive board? I want to give it a shot but I want to know if it failed because this is crap, or because I tried to install a firmware that has bd check with no bd drive board.

If u are testing this on a ps3 that came from factory with a higher firmware than 3.55, then u do not need to marry the bd.
You haven't had to marry the drive since cech-25xx. Those and newer PS3s, have the logic board built in the mobo already.

I'm testing it on a chechH01 model, you know,the one I can't get into fsm with. I bought a new bt board and the bt works sometimes, the wifi never works. Either way, still can't seem to get into fsm. It is either try this method, or buy a different fsm dongle. Since I got this console for free, figured I give this a go. May be onto something here, but probably not.

If somehow miraculously this worked, would I be able to downgrade to 3.55 or lower without the hardware flasher, to remarry a bd drive to this console?

after trying to review some of the information on this process, it seems as if after you do this, you will never be able to go back to a lower firmware. The site that was listed says to install only rebug 4.21.1. It has a source link that when you click it, it says to only install e3 4.30 cfw. Not sure how to make heads or tails, but i dont really like that i would never be able to go back to a lower firmware, because i would like to remarry a drive to this console, assuming i dont kill it trying this crazyness

I wouldn't go as far as saying that since this user named crisetbets claims to have jailbroken his 3k series ps3 and was able to play a couple of backups from it.
He also seems to be a well respected technician in the french forums and he has a "reputation" to protect.

tl;dr: they may not have found a hack for all PS3's but they do have something, only time will tell if it will be anything good.

So this will not work on cech3xxx and cech 4xxx consoles, but may work on 'unhackable' cech250x consoles with metldr2 ?
I hope that is right, bcause I have 2504b console
