It is already a singular partition.

What could the reason be? I tried switching between the usb ports yet it was negative.

Many thanks folks.
I still think you need a 2.0 adapter for 3.0 backwards compatible external. I have a Seagate external with both the 3.0 and 2.0. It only works with the 2.0 attachment on my PS3

I don't know what your external looks like or what model you have. On my Seagate it has a detachable and interchangeable bottom. I can take the bottom part off to put either the 2.0 or 3.0 adapter on it. I think newer ones might have an output/input for both. Anyways, what I'm saying is that the PS3 isn't compatible with USB 3.0. Mine doesn't work unless I have it hooked up to USB 2.0. If somebodies is working with 3.0 then that means it's a hard drive that is backwards compatible with 2.0.

Out of curiosity, are there anyways to install 3.0 drivers to the PS3 in comparison to PC? Utilizingg Linux for example to be able to mount and see the 3.0 HDD on the PS3?

I had the same problem with my Seagate USB 3.0.

I formatted it with the format tool, that comes with ps3 multi tools. With allocation unit size 65536.

Works like a charm now.

im assuming you have a 300g slim. Slims DO NOT accept 3.0 but phats do ( tested myself with many drives and ps3s) if you want to use that 3.0 cable you must use a usb hub aka 4 port splitter , it will detect the harddrive. but transfer speed will be horrid and you wont be able to mount games or anything because of how slow it is
