HELP! I dont want to Brick my PS3!

Hey all, I just joined this site in hopes of finding some answers. My playstation 3 was just recently hacked from firmware 3.50 to 3.55, then used Rogero 4.30 and all was well. Even had MultiMan installed correctly. Here's where things went wrong... I was not aware of a way of getting the PS3 games from my PC to the PS3, so what I did was I tried to caddy my ps3 hard drive to my PC and transfer the files that way, but it didnt work. It didnt even recognize the drive (assuming because it was formatted to be FAT32?). Now when I put the hard drive back in the PS3 I get the black screen asking to connect the ps controller by usb. I cannot flash anything in recovery and it just wont boot now... I"m super nervous that I bricked the PS3. If anyone out there can help a noob out I would be forever greatful.

Nothing has been flashed and should still be on 4.30 cfw.

Thanks for your time everyone.

If I were you I would try using a different hdd, and install games by saving the game to a USB drive and then installing game on hdd from ps3 and the 4.30 cfw does have a lot of bugs but it's your choice

your internal hdd? , you must know that a part of the firmware is stored on the hdd (ps3 slim), anyway it's not fat32 either.....

if you have a spare hdd you could try to format that one on the computer and put it in the ps3, hopefully you will be asked to re-install the firmware...

if you format your current one all will be gone ofcourse.

EDIT: nvm, i need to read better.

You killed the MBR of your drive by connecting it to your PC. Or did you format it?

Anyway, the original PS3 filesystem is damaged beyond repair, only a re-format on your PS3 is the option. A PC is never (well, that is a big word with all decryption recovery's lately) able to recognize the encrypted PS3 filesystem. Linux maybe, windows is almost out of the question.

Use FTP or MultiMan to transfer games to your internal drive ...

Edit: Fat32 is only for external drives .....

You guys have no idea how happy I am to know it's not bricked , think I'll pull the hard drive out again and reformat. So I dont need to format it to be FAT32?

again, thanks alot guys!

Oh, also... should I just try to flash the 4.30 Rogero again or do you think I'll need to put on the 3.55 again and then upgrade to the 4.30.
So confusing.... alot of props to you guys that know what your doing lol.

Okay, just an update.. I followed these instructions and I seem to be making progress...
http://www.tortuga-cove.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3708

There is a section if you scroll down that says (Changing/Upgrading HDD while on Rogero CFW 4.30).

Was able to reformat the drive using this method and I'm currently on 3.55 in the process of flashing 3.7, and then hopefully to 4.30 from there.

sigh, what a long process but it will be all worth it if it works.

Thank you all for your feedback. This site rocks

Oh man lol. That was a big mistake right there bud You should have done a little more reading and research before you did that. Let us know if you fix your problem! Do you know how to use FTP and such? Look for some tutorials. I didn't like it, too slow lol. So I looked for an alternate way to transfer games from an external HDD to my PS3. What I learned was, you can get Multiman to recognize an NTSF external HDD. There are some steps to take though, and you can't use the NTSF drive to run or play games. Just to transfer from external to Internal using multiman. Also if one usb port on your PS3 isn't allowing multiman to recognize your drive, or files on it, switch usb ports. Upon my own research on various things, I notice a lot of tutorials are outdated, or not in perfectly understandable english, so it can be a bit jarring.
Google "How to use Multiman with your NTSF Drive, you will find a tutorial from nextgenupdate. At least that is what I used. If you have any questions or need help, just ask. Get a 1 or 2TB External hardrive, Create a file on your PC with Notepad called USB.CFG and when saving the file instead of svaing as .TXT, choose All Files in the drop down box. Follow the tutorial when you find it. After creating that file, via FTP, or usb flash drive formatted to FAT32, transfer that USB.CFG file to dev_hdd0>game>BLES80608>USRDIR> Put the USB.CFG file in there. Connect your drive to the PS3, open multiman, go to File Manager, Press START + Triangle click yes, give it a few, then your drive should be recognized as pvd_usbxxx, in my case xxx being 000.
Double click on that folder with X, click X once on the game folder on your external drive which will highlight it. Then press circle, choose copy, navigate back to dev_hdd0 which is your internal PS3 drive. Once in there double click on the GAMES folder. If its not there, create it. I ripped a PS3 game internally using Multiman and it created it for me. Going in to that GAMES folder, press Circle, and Paste the game in to there. It'll take some time, if you get an error delete files, and try again. Once you have your game internally, you are ready to use Multiman to play it. I am a total noob myself. I'm not good with tutorials, or explaining lol. I never owned a PS3 since it launched, I have owned my PS3 for about 3 days now. When I upgraded my PS3 with Rogero 4.30 CFW, I made the mistake of not making back ups in case of brick, so yeah...it happens lol. It slipped my mind, but everything went smooth. Good luck, and be careful

EDIT: I just read that last bit of your post. There is actually a tutorial on how to upgrade your PS3 HDD while on a CFW. It will explain the steps. Search either on here or google tortuga cove. I hope this helps you out man
