Could we create our own DLC?

So I was just looking through the Skyrim DLC for PC and Xbox and thought how crap it'll be if PS3 never sees this content. Is is hypothetically possible to create and install our own custom DLC on JB PS3 consoles. I'm fairly sure no matter what we did and how we repackaged say Dawnguard DLC from Xbox it wouldn't work, but hey what do you think?

I recently managed to convert my PC save to my PS3 and back the other week with relative ease. Thought something like that would be impossible but it seems some things are never impossible in this scene

Man, i can't tell you about developing and that stuff for PS3, but, for what i've heard and read on producers interviews and etc, it's complete different develop a game for the PS3 and X-box 360 systems, like a program to linux and windows, you know?
We can take as examples ported games, from one plataform to another, the port one it's always the one that get the bugs. One game that i've played and see that for myself is Warriors Orochi 2, a game that was originally developed for sony system and ported to X-box, it had a lot of slowdown. Even thought it's a weak game for the current hardware, the PS3 and Ps2 versions don't had any framerate problem, while the X-box had a ridiculous slowdown performance. The same goes on Bayonetta graphic bugs on PS3 vers, and etc.

So, what i can tell you is that, yes, maybe there is a way to do what you think, but it's like take something, and remake it(or adapt it) to run in another system. Maybe in the future(who seems near.) we can do whatever we want for the PS3(like we saw on games totally hacked for PS2), but for now, i think it's too difficult.

Anyway, good luck!

the game just cause 2 comes to mind on this. people were able to basically port the mods from the PC/360 version over to the ps3 version in a game update. you could download a converting program and pick and choose your mods from lists from the ps/360 and "port" them over

I doubt one would say completely different, they probably have to make quite a number of changes though, and do so using preprocessor directives. That's how we commonly write programs designed to be compiled on multiple OS's. So it depends on which mods(if any) are designed to be platform specific. It's possible that they have very little to do with the platforms, as dlc rarely changes the actual games themselves, but essentially add files for the game engine to read and use. E.g. adding a weapon to a game doesn't change what the game does, but changes what you see and how you act.

Bethesda's programmers were the ones that announced that the only reason the dlcs for ps3 are late is because they are having huge difficulties to optimize the code for the crappy ps3 architecture and to eliminate all the game-breaking bugs.
Now, if the developers themselves are having problems to port the dlcs to ps3 i'm not so sure that a random dev will be successful in the task(unless he manages to get his hands on the source code).

The question that raises is: which mods are held back due to architecture, and which are held back due to marketing?

Probably... I don't know much about programming, the nearest thing i ever made to it it's MUGEN chars codding, what i've found pretty hard! And i've hacked a Guitar Hero game for my X-Box.

But if we going to port some exclusive DLC, we had to have the knowledge to port it, make it works on another system, what i thought it maybe hard to do... Maybe some exclusive DLC's uses exclusive platform resources or codes?

Well, that's conspiracy territory but i don't think that MS has enough influence on the software house to decide on what platform the dlcs for a multi-platform game are going to be released/held back.
What we do know is that usually Bethesda's games are quite quirky and full of bugs even on pc where it's very easy to create patches/bugfixes, add that to the unnecessarily complicated ps3 architecture and you can probably guess the answer.

Microsoft have the money to buy exclusives for the 360, so in that sense they have plenty of influence on where a multiplatforms DLC goes.

They already get a months exclusive on each Skyrim DLC, ahead of the PC release.
