No RED led on PS3 slim

- i have a broken PS3 Slim
- my original PSU is dead
- i joined ATX PSU
- on the 4-pin connector i gave ground and 5v for stand by mode
- i turned on the ATX PSU
- but the PS3 red LED is not lit
- then i joined the 12V and ground to turn on the big connector and turn on ATX PSU
- red LED not lit, but for 1 second to spin fan

PS3 is completely dead? or is something else what i can try?

Thank you

Why not get a PSU that was made for the PS3? You may have shorted out the Mobo.

if you join the 12V and the ps3 is technically still in standby mode or less then it's obvious that the fan only will spin for a moment, it is missing the pwm signal.

your power/eject board is still fine?
if you give the ps3 5V it should be on standby.

did you try to insert a disc to see if that triggers the ps3?

i don't know much about the slim, but if the the bios chip gets its power (3,3V) then i think the standby led should at least do something instead of being dead.

if you have a meter you could check fuses on the mainboard, some are marked as TH with a number (thermal resistors), restistance should be low about 0-1 ohm.

but do you apply the 5V to the right points?, what is the history of the ps3, the psu just died and that was it?

- then i try conect ATX PSU
- HDD is tested in PC work fine

- OK, i can check fuses on main board, and at which point can I find them???

ok, so maybe there aren't any fuses for the 5V on the mainboard, i checked the schematics that is available for the fat ps3, and i know yours is a slim, but there should be some similairity.

here's a picture how the fat handles the 5v, first there's a 3,3V regulator on the mainboard and that one gives the bios chip power, no fuse in between.
this chip also handles the standby and power on led,on off switches, fan..and system on.

in the pic you can also see how the 3,3V regulator looks like, there are more that look the same, but the one that is for standby power have pin1 and 3 connected to the incoming 5V.

long story, probably useless can't remember someone fixed their ps3 with my help, but you never know.

on some pins from the power/eject board connector you should measure 3,3V because of pull up resistors.
