game updates - do I need all intermediate updates or only the latest?

title basically sums it up. e.g. looking at little big planet, there are 18 updates. Do I need to install all of them sequentially or is the last one enough? curiously though, some intermediate ones are MUCH bigger than the newest one (a couple 100MB larger).

Apparently, you need all of them incrementally installed. I had my GT5 on 1.09 wich was highest 3.55 allowed. I updated my PS3 to rogero 4.30 v4 just now and patched the 1 GB 2.0 skipping all the patches in between and game won't boot anymore.

I had to go to Game Data utility and delete GT5, now I can play it, but with version 1.0 so I need to download everything. THIS IS MY THEORY THOUGH... so anyone who knows for sure please help and save me the trouble of downloading the ~20 patches GT5 has.

Though judging by op posts 1 Week old, I guess no help will be given.

I'm going to disagree (but I am not 100% sure either) as if I buy an old game, it doesn't prompt to download and install each and every patch for the game, just the latest one?

@Schnitter did the game automatically prompt for an update using online or did you update via usb stick?

@zeeks - Since my friend has the same game, I used Awesome Update Finder 0.3 to get the links and sent them to USB stick. So yeah, I didn't do the updates incrementally so I guess that is why it all went wrong. After deleting Game Data GT5, and having the PS3 handle the updates, I see 1/19 stages. There are exactly 19 patches and I updated directly to 2.0 so I guess I have to download all 19 of them and put them all in the USB drive.

I think some games are incremental, some are cumulative.

GT5 seems to be incremental, not sure why though, I bet if you stuck the game in a brand new machine it would only ask for the latest update and nothing before that, but would it ACTUALLY behind the scenes download the ones needed including the latest?

I assume that this is what's happening and that we need ALL updates, not just the newest one. For me GT5 worked fine on Rogero 4.30 after applying all of them manually from a USB stick
