Braid is better, as the solder sucker vaccum what ever you call it can do some damage if not held correctly

MAX 30W soldering iron.
**** desoldering pump. I never liked those, go desoldering braid. I wouldn't use a heat gun. If it's a one time soldering job right now, then use leadsolder. Leadfree is kinda the professional market standard, because its more healthy to inhale the fumes of in the long run.. But we speak years here imo, using lead solder now won't damage. Lead solder melts at lower temperatures, so less chance of ****ing up... Which you most likely will, if you havent soldered before - based on your questions. In terms of solder, just use rosin-core solder. It's Always nice it adds a bit flux as well due to the rosin-core. I sadly cant remember the actual metal-mix in mine right now, you know.. on soldering tin, they normally write something such as xx/yy, where xx and yy are numbers. Cannot remember mine, but just go with rosin-core solder... I have RGHed xbox's fine with it. Remember to clean surfaces with .. oh, whats the english word.. denatured alchohol? It removes oxidation from the surface you are soldering to, making it easier for the solder to flow onto it. What else is there... hmm, Just think and google.  Oh, and for your own sake, do some practice on some old electronic you have lying around. It's rather small parts in the game consoles. Edit: go with a thin soldering iron head. Maybe buy a soldering pencil instead? a thin head and low wattage will make sure, you dont screw up as easy at the very least.... If you need to ask how to use a soldering iron, your PS3 is at great risk of being dun goofed. Know your own limits But, also, on the positive side, it's fun soldering

On second thought, go with the 25W - that is more than enough and the tip is fine for this. The only point at which I use about 30W(I have a soldering station with adjustable wattage), is when I use desoldering braid... it seems to sometimes like to be a few watt higher to quicker suck up the tin.. anyway. I don't have much experience with flux, you will have to ask someone else. The only time I use flux, is when I am doing a trace repair as those traces are goddamn small and the tin is hard to get to stick to it. Else, the rosin flux in the rosin core solder has always been enough for me. Anyway, if you buy flux, just make sure its a non "electrical leading"(forgot the English word) one, and preferably a non-corrosive too, in case you dont clean it after with denatured alcohol. Which you should do if you want perfectness :P And always remember to clean the solder point/pad beforehand with denatured alcohol and a cotton-wibe or whatever those cotton-on-a-stick things are called.My endnote on this is, if its good flux, you should buy some. It helps also in the normal solder work, I'm just for the most cases happy with the rosin core solder. The desoldering braid is cool. The soldering iron stand is a MUST and that one seems fine. I would go nuts without one. Honestly, if you want to save a few bucks... I like my soldering iron tip cleaner, but you don't have to buy it. Neither did I. It's not neccessary, and it isn't always I use mine either... If you look at the link to the soldering iron stand, there's is a sponge coming along there, which you'd use to clean your soldering iron tip with. I would use the 63/37 solder. @euss (I believe it was that wrote it on the wiki ) gave a good explanation once (so thank him for this advice): I recommend using 63 Sn/37 Pb tin for soldering, as lead-free and high contents of lead will lead to subpar soldering.Also if you are not going to solder professionally for months or years, another reason to just go with lead-solder is, it melts at lower degrees (but is more unhealthy in the long run, which matters for those that work with it alot  ).************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* I use 60/40 solder myself btw, and it works fine for me.
