PS3 Slim Blu Ray Drive Not Working

First post here and I'm looking for some advice

I recently sent in a PS3 (CECH-2501) to get downgraded. When I got it back, system was downgraded but the Blu-ray drive didn't work. Disc cannot be inserted or ejected. No noise from the motor or lens moving. No Blue LED. Pressing eject results in a beep.

Packaging wasn't so great so I assumed there would be some loose ribbon cables. I disassembled the PS3 and reseated all the cables a dozen times now and still no luck. I even checked the internals of the drive and everything looks good.

So I'm thinking it could be the firmware maybe? I attempted to restore the firmware via Recovery but it got stuck at "Checking... Please wait." No other option but to pull the power plug from the back. This resulted in corrupting the system files on the HD and I can no longer go to the XMB without restoring firmware. Upon further research, it looks like the system cannot process the update file on the USB because it checks these devices in this order:

PS3 HDD - Bluray laser - CD laser - USB 0 - USB 1

Since the Blu Ray drive isn't working, it won't bother looking for the UPDATE file in the USB.

So my only option right now is to try to fix this Blu Ray drive. Not sure what else I could do besides reseat and check the ribbon cables...

Any advice is greatly appreciated

@SogeKingOP , did you looked or measured if the drive gets it's power? , for the fat ps3 it is 12V and 5V.

measure it at the drive.

Could you tell me more specifics on how to do this? Sorry but this was my first time disassembling a PS3.

this is how the power cable to the drive looks like (and where it should be) :

look if it's really there or missing.
to me it looks like the same cable used in the fat ps3 so i assume the voltage order is the same.

just replace the br drive since its a newer slim you dont have to worry about remarrying the drive since its has the br board built in just a matter of swapping it out

and your getting that error due to no br drive detected in some cases itll give you a rsod due to a failed firmware update due to no br drive theres firmwares you can try that the br check is disabled
what firmware are you running?

the old drive (fat ps3) is using a photoled for that function, when you insert a disc the ps3 turns on, normal behavior.

it is powered by 3.3V ever (always on) , the rest of the drive is using differen power lines.

Hi, I have the same problem with you, with the same model. I have the board ( bought off flea bay) with latest firmware, non working bluray drive. I thought downgrading it to 3.55, would solve the problem, it didn't. Tried to remarry it even though the bluray board is built in ( just experimenting ), didn't work. some of the hard drive games worked though (probably don't need disc to play). BTW I tried the bluray drive in another ps3, it's working.
