Equipment you broke? Riskiest tech activity you ever did?

-Just after PS3 launch, when they still cost $600, I went to a friends house who was on holiday. I wanted to watch a DVD via the PS3 and it said update available. I clicked OK but turned power off about 20% during update because it was taking too long and I wanted to watch the DVD right away. Only years later did I realise I could have bricked it.

-Tried to replace clone Wiikey with original.. because of Super Mario Smash Brawl support. Ruined my Wii and a) game was supported for all modded Wiis days later and b) when I got a new Wii I played the game for a total of 7 mins before I realised I hated it.

-Ruined an external caddy by plugging a different brand power supply into it.

-Fried my brothers CPU and mobo after I didn't notice the thermal paste was not smooth.

-Tried to hack ps3hax, got the goatse virus as punishment which is now my windows wallpaper and I can't remove it.

OK... just joking about that last one.

Share your tales of equipment ruined (or could/should have been ruined) due to YOUR error.

This Topic sounds to me like "What is the most weird place where you had sex?" xD

Anyway, I don't remember anyday that I broke something trying to repair or mod.
But when I was child I have broken some of my toys to make one bigger, better and custom from me.. I haven't ever finished the project xD now all those peaces of plastic and electronic are in some landfill..

However, I haven't done something very risky, I like to know what I am doing before I do it :P

Mmm maybe I beat you: I've linked the motor of my little rc model to 220 volt of my house xD
It has spun like a beast for two or three seconds and then it had blown xD

i fucked up my ps2 (it was still under warranty) trying to solder the neo2.2 chip to the board, a part came loose, a ps2 modder fixed it for me, but it did cost me some extra money.

since then i stay away from small electronics.

I just remembered :

I won a dreamcast from DC-EMU (pretty sure it was there) boxed it up and then went to university for 4 years, came back and exploded it by plugging in a UK power supply 240v into the NTSC 110v socket, forgetting it had a step down converter...

DOH.
