E3 Flasher - Assistance required! Here's my story...
Hey guys,
I'm a new forum member, but have been following PS3Hax and these forums regularly since the 3.55 jailbreak. I originally had 3.55 CFW, but upgraded back to OFW when the scene was fairly non-existent! And not to mention, a few good games were being released! Anyway, I recently purchased the E3 Flasher Limited Edition, with the aim of downgrading and setting myself up with the ability to do Half-Dual Boot. I went with the E3 Flasher, because when it comes to soldering, I am a complete n00b - never done it before! The Flasher arrived, and has since proved to be a complete pain in the arse lol! Here's my story (and problems)... I followed all the tutorials and advice and proceeded to set up the E3 NOR clip as instructed. My PS3 model is CECH-2003B, which means it has the SAMSUNG NOR chip and the (annoyingly!) slightly different motherboard layout! Anyway, I set it up as I've said, and the PS3 booted as expected, with the correct LED lights showing. SUCCESS! I thought... I proceeded to update the E3 Flasher with the latest update.bin, and then went to make a backup of my original flash. I got an error code with three blinking blue lights. This indicated that there was an error reading the PS3 BIOS, and after plenty of research, all answers pointed towards putting pressure on the clip with a coin. I opened the system back up, taped a coin to the top, closed it back up again. I had a few connectivity problems in the HDD area at this point, but eventually got a good connection. I first got the alternating blue lights, and so went to bed for the night. But now, a NEW PROBLEM! Once I put it back on, now I was getting the RED and GREEN lights ON, but NO BLUE LIGHTS this time! More research later, most answers pointed towards problems with the awkward Samsung NOR chip, and so I updated the E3 Flasher with the Samsung update.bin - the blue lights all lit up, indicating the successful update, but upon restarting the PS3, I was back to just Red and Green lights. Like this, See: https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/i...dRd1jP32TjIJqm Might I also add, that at this time, the HDD was not being read and all I was getting was a black screen. The power stayed on, and the blu-ray drive still received and ejected discs, and the only way was to turn the power off from the mains. Worried that I may have semi-bricked my PS3, I dismantled the PS3 again, and removed anything E3 Flasher related. Luckily, my PS3 runs as normal, just like it did before this whole saga! So... anyone know what the problem may be?? Maybe someone could directed me to a step by step tutorial for dealing with the 2000/samsung models? Or is my E3 Flasher buggered lol? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! Last edited by dramo89; 11-21-2012 at 06:09 AM. |

From what I heard, if not lights are lit up, there is no connection between the clip and chip.
Ask @playerkp420 ,he may be able to help you out.

when you put it on the chip, i'm assuming you get it to click on. when this happens its is actually tilted to one side. you don't want that. pop it off and lightly set it on top without clicking it onto it, then do the coin trick.

I have found the best way to secure the clip on that model.
Is to take an old e3 clip (I go through them) and rip the ribbon off. Then put the plastic clip without the ribbon on top of the good clip with the ribbon. Seat the good clip on the nor good and tape it down. Put the old clip on top of it and tape it all down good. Assemble the motherboard on the heat sink and the metal that goes on the other side. Screw down the small screws that hold it together, and the heat sink screws. I have been getting some good, easy, dumps that way.
