broken ps3 slim
situation.....
Little kid pisses dad off, dad gets angry, Little kid shouts at dad, dad say F*ck it, picks up ps3 slim & throws is at the wall, Little kid cries, dads friend cries because he carnt fix it! Anyway.... The console is a ps3 slim 160gb Symptoms After powering on the unit the fan spins up Red power light truns to green Before the HDD light blinks the console stops dead (45 - 60 secs) Nothing shows on the display (HDMI) No blinking lights Tests so far HDD spins up when plugged into PC & its discoverable (not tried format) changed PSU with the unit from my own console & same symtoms as above Teared down the whole unit, no loose conections no cracked PCB ? Where do i go from here what else do i need to check? ?? I was hoping someone on the forum would have more knowlegde troubleshooting these things :D UPDATE 1 I put the thing back together After powering on the unit the fan starts to spin up (doesnt get up to speed) Red power light truns to green & then it dies 10 secs max so from taking it apart & puting it back together all i have achived is cutting the running time down from 45-60 seconds to 10 secs sounds like i need to throw it at the wall!UPDATE 2 after trying with the BD drive unpluged i found that it now boots for the original 45-60 seconds before switch off. (I must have not had the BD ribbon cable inserted correctly) So now i am back to square one ![]() Not the PSU Not the BD rom Not the HDD Loose solder joints me thinks????? anyone know where i can find a complete teardown for a cech 3001A? The fan & metal plate seems to be fixed to the heatsink & mobo, dont want to force it? Last edited by rasscal; 11-21-2012 at 03:26 PM. |

I'm sorry but i fail to believe this console is completely dead when there is no signs of cosmetic damage internal/external... if the impact was'nt hard enough to split the casing then surley most of the components inside are intact.

@rasscal
, removing the drive probably won't help....
maybe it's possible to look if a component gets too hot. did you measured if the 5V from the psu also cuts when the ps3 looks dead? |

The CPU, GPU, Or the RSX May have been damaged in the impact - If there is a flashing red light - Or it flashes Green, Yellow, then Red Then it means Hardware damage.

I believe, Reballing the Cell and the RSX chip is would be the solution (but not the only one).

Another thing you can try(you do not need the blu-ray drive connected for this) un-plug the ps3 then hold the eject button and after it starts blinking the red light quickly alternate pressing the power and eject buttons and I mean quickly like literally as fast as you can.
If done correctly you will see the power light turn yellow then it will blink 16 times with a short pause every 4 blinks then the yellow light will blink again and the cycle repeats until you un-plug the ps3. A perfectly working slim ps3 will blink red 16 times, I'm guessing yours won't. If the first 4 blinks are "green red green red" and the rest are all red then it is most likely a problem with the flash chip or the traces connected to it. If you see a different "light show" then please post a reply with the color sequence. |
