1) well i have a ps3 with 4.11 FW and from what i searched until now i found out that only way to JB is via hardware downgrade (e3 and so) is this correct or is there any software i can use?

2) is there any way to play with back up games except JB (havent found a thread about this one) im currently on low badget so im renting games from my local video store and since its kinda a rip off i could use some help if i could copy a game i rented so dont have to rent it again (dont hate me for piracy plz)

there's no software, hardware only. you'll also need to make sure your ps3 is downgradeable (ie not a 3k or newer model - check here)

no there's no way to play backed up games without downgrading and installing CFW.

Your Ps3's OFW needs to be 3.55 or lower. (meaning FW out of the box).

Being a n00b, i'll take advantage of this post and ask my questions here

I have decided to buy a ps3 slim 120gb, with 3.55 custom firmware already installed, ok?
Does it matter what cfw is installed, i.e can i install rodrigos 4.2 on a kmeaw 3.55 (not really sure about the names, sry for that) if necessary?
Also, reading those newbie stickys and FAQs have, in my case, raised more questions than answered, so here it comes... (hope this is the right place to ask)

1. I have read in many occasions that psn access is impossible at the moment with cfw. (Like the huge banner above) However i also have read in many occasions that it is indeed possible to play online with cfw. How is the case? Does it change according to the release of new ofw?
2. If it's not possible in any occasion to play online, why do people need "spoofs" to make their ps3's think they are on a higher fw than they are. Is it because of the fact that some games aren't playable on lower firmwares?
3. Are there games that aren't playable on lover fw :D?
4. I read there are all kinds of emulators for the console (ps1, nintendo 8-bit...) however some people said that ps2 games aren't downloadable, and others said they are... Can i play ps2 downloaded games or backups or not?
5. If psn is indeed of limits, will i be able to connect to the internet anyways? (to use the browser)
6. If the cfw installed on the ps3 is rubbish, can i the 3.55 ofw and then again the 3.55 cfw of my likings?

That's all i can come up with now. Again, I have tried to read all the "Read this before doing anything" -posts and more, but these questions were never answered in them (at least i couldn't find the answers)

If I were you Id wait untill theres an easier way to install the new 4.30+ cfw before you decide to go ahead and update, there are alot of reports of people bricking there consoles trying to update to 4.30+cfw's as it entails a list of things to install before you put the 4.30 cfw on. Nearly all of the games that are playable on 4.30 cfw have been fixed for 3.55 cfw aswell, and 3.55 cfw is way more safer than 4.30 cfw. In the coming months there will be more 4.xx+ cfw's released that will be easier to install so If I was you Id hold fire for now and wait for a easier and better one , but its your decision your can rush into 4.xx+ cfw an run the risk of bricking your ps3 and turning it into a expensive door stop or wait an still enjoy higher firmware games on 3.55 cfw.I hope I helped you decide what to do...

Welcome to the forums and thanks for attempting to grasp all the knowledge of the ps3 scene in a short amount of time. You've done more than 90% of the other new members so gold star to you!! Next time you might want to create your own thead as you would get more replies.

1. At the moment psn access is available, but for how long no one knows. Sony change the passphrase and the only way we are able to connect is when that passphrase is linked. Think of it as a bonus and not something which will always be available.

2. People spoofed their consoles to lower the risk of themselves or other people accidentally updating the firmware to an official one, and therefore losing their CFW. not so much used anymore because of the latest firmwares.

3. If on a 4.30 firmware, 99% of games will work if untouched.

4. ISO's won't work without a Cobra dongle at the moment. I believe some ps2 games released on psn will work if cracked by the scene groups. You'll have to search in particular but I presume you mean ISO's.

5. Im not 100% sure, but I believe yes you will be able to connect to the internet even if we don't have the psn passphrase.

6. Yes you are able to software downgrade from a CFW. If on OFW you'll have to use a hardware method.

I hope this all makes sense. For the record, Im on Rebug Rex 4.21 CFW. Works perfectly, no problems whatsoever, and I highly recommend it!! Hope this information is somewhat useful!!

The only way to do it is with a hardware flasher but you need to be a excellent solderer.
