Rogero 4.30 V2.0 - Error every cold boot "please connect USB cable" ...

Hi there,

Edited - as have found the real problem...Please ignore all posts on page 1 until the bottom of page 2

Basically,

Upgraded from Rebug 3.55.2 -> QA flag -> Rogero 4.30 V2.0
Since then PS3 when booting from off will display a message "Attach USB cable to PS3 and connect controller then press PS button". After doing so, another screen appears saying "There is a problem with the system software, press PS to try and restart" -> If I press the PS button, the system restarts fine and there is no problem.

This does not happen when doing a reboot or any other time, only from a cold boot.

It has been suggested in this thread that I should have gone back to OFW 3.55 before upgrading.

I have downgraded 4 times now with the same exact result.
The problem does NOT appear on ANY other firmware.

I have downgraded this way...

Rogero 4.30 V2.0 -> 4.25-3.55 downgrader in recovery -> Rogero 3.55 3.7 in recovery -> Then QA flag -> Then installed Rogero 4.30 V2.0 again...same problem

Rogero 4.30 V2.0 -> 999 downgrader in recovery -> QA flag -> OFW 3.55 in recovery -> Rogero 4.30 V2.0...same problem

I have tried performing all restore\rebuild\fix options in recovery and in XMB on Rogero 4.30 V2.0 and also on OFW 3.55/Rogery 3.55 3.7.

The error message does not appear on a cold boot on ANY of the intermediate firmwares...So no problems on...

OFW 3.55
4.25-3.55 downgrader
Rebug 999 downgrader
Rogero 3.55 3.7 downgrader

I have tried pretty much anything I can think of to resolve this to no joy for the past 10 hours or so.

My PS3 is a Slim, NOR model that came with firmware 3.3x

I couldn't tell you why it is doing what it's doing, but if it where my console i would enter recovery menu and try option 3 restore file system. if that didn't work i'd try 4 rebuild database.

Option 4 Rebuilding Database FAQ:

Question: What do I lose from doing this?
Answer: It will remove messages received and sent. Any playlists you have set up. If you organize your games/videos/music/photos into albums or as I like to call them “folders” you will have to set that up again.

Question: Will this delete any game saves or game data on my PS3?
Answer: No

Question: Will this delete any of my games, photos, music or videos?
Answer: No

Question: Will this remove or effect my trophies in any way?
Answer: No

Question: Will this work on any PS3 Console?
Answer: Yes all PS3′s have this recovery menu.

Question: Will this damage my PS3?
Answer: Not at all

Question: What about my other accounts on the PS3?
Answer: You will not have to re-activate the accounts on your PS3.

Hopefully Option 3 works for you though.

Hey, these things happen

Once the file system corrupt message came up after choosing "restore file system" and it being damaged beyond repair and needing a format, well nothing would work.

Tried all options in recovery menu and all would just hang, including install system software so...have now downgraded and just about to re-install 4.30 V2.0 on final step again....

600GB of stuff gone but there we go, all good now and it's resolved the problem

Cheers, at least I know how to get into the recovery menu now ...probs the issue in the first place, installed 4.30 V2.0 in the XMB first time.

I was going to mention downgrading again and starting over in the first place but I had a similar issue just the other day. i was stuck in recovery and even tried installing the downgrader pup in recovery and got stuck at 99%. it booted back in recovery. in the end I tried rebuilding file system and it got stuck at preparing so i unplugged it. Turned it back on and it proceeded with rebuilding the file system. I thought i was screwed for sure.

Anyway, sorry about the loss.

Hmmmm....

Not sorted....ahhhhhhhhhhh

Seems the problem is my external hard drive, if that is plugged in when the system boots it causes - the message that the system software didn't start properly (as in the first post).

So it's definitely the drive and not software related. Bloody weird though, not sure how to go about this - will try the drive in a different enclosure I reckon as maybe it's that the spin up is delayed too much or something in this particular enclosure....

All recovery options now work, however none of them fix the problem - obviously update system software doesn't work and gives corrupted data as expected.

Somebody shoot me....back to downgrading again, christ sake!

Could this be related to a problem with the Rogero firmware? and not the drive, will see what happens on 3.7 when I downgrade again, this is incredibly annoying, but true enough as you say. It's only data

OK cheers, I've yanked enclosure apart and am giving the drive a go in my old enclosure....It's a 3TB drive which could also be dodgy part (though have prepared it correctly and it does work fine if not present at bootup).

Nearly done downgrading and upgrading back for 2nd time, should get to bed it's 5.20am here....ooopsy

OK, more info...

Turns out this has all been a coincidence and has NOTHING to do with the external drive.

Basically on a fresh install Rogero 4.30 V2.0 will display an error from a cold boot and request USB cable be connected and make an attempt to reboot system (which then works), NO MATTER WHAT - No external hard drive connected...

I have downgraded for the third time and this time made sure that the bug isn't in lower firmwares, and it isn't the system boots from cold no problems at all...

This has to be a bug in the Rogero 4.30 V2 firmware

I'm going to give Rebug 4.21 a shot and see what happens there, somethings not right here, maybe it's related to how hard drive is detected at bootup on 4.xx firmwares....doubt it though.

EDIT - Have just confirmed that the Rogero 3.7 3.55 firmware doesn't exhibit the problem or the 4.25-3.55 downgrader...
