you did not by accident had a disc in the drive while remarrying? , this will fail the process.

the ps3 will play "some" games from hdd, probably ones that doesn't need disc in the drive.

Are we talking about the same model? mine is the same as the thread starter, the bluray logic board is built in the motherboard, maybe that's why it's playing some games in hdd without the disc drive.

Starting with cech-25xx and later models, the blu ray logic board is built into the motherboard.
I would say if there is no power going to the drive, it is a bad ribbon. It is crunched or creased. It is easy to damage the ribbon on the bottom of the drive on this model. Since it is hard to reach fat fingers under the drive, when trying to install the ribbon.
In fact, I probably am the one to fault for the OPs drive problem. I am the one that downgraded the console. And I may have crunched the ribbon when installing.

But this model should still be able to play homebrew, PSN games, etc... Because of the logic board being built into the mobo.

@SogeKingOP - I found that extra ribbon I had, for your model. I will ship it out today.

@playerkp420 I have tried the drive in another ps3 with the same model, it works flawlessly, in this "faulty motherboard", if I push the laser away from the spinner, it will accept the disc and that's it, can't eject, can't spin, I will try to inspect (if I have time) the connector for the bluray drive ribbon in the motherboard ( all 4 of them).

I am not sure you are having the same problem as the OP. Maybe you should make your own thread, instead of hijacking this one.

having the extact same problem, stupid ribion cable under the drive, must have messed with it like a hundred times still not working, anyone know where i can find these ribbon cables.if anyone gets the drive working after this problem please let me know how.thanks for any help
