Easy, cheap and fast way to hack PS2?

I have a PS2 FAT and I'd like to hack it, to use Linux, install my games on the HDD and whatever the other advantages of a hacked PS2 are.

Easy, cheap etc way is to use the freebootMC, which was selected games... (cant remember, but one was a jamesbond game) or use of MagicSwap3.

I will offer magicSwap3 use to you but... you provide postage there and back, also your own 8mb memcard(back up your saves they may be corrupt when you get them back, ive never had that but...warning) . Plus a cheeky one pound (or minimum)donation to ps3hax.net.

EDIT: Am Uk.

Back a few years I heard bad feedback about SwapMagic and that chips were better.

Does chipping a PS2 now costs anywhere from £10 to £20 at least?

A PS2 chipped unlocks it completely doesn't it?

I had a PS2 Slim chipped in 2006/07 but then sold it because it wouldn't read the game discs. Shouldn't have done it.

Post Possible, but Risky

Some mods can corrupt both your gamesaves AND your system partion PERIOD! I recommend if you have no experience in hacking or modding the console to take it too someone that has experience in it and can do it cheap. There was also some Swap to do which could hack it.

Now, I don't care much about Linux on PS2 or anything, I just really want to play an NTSC-J game on my PS2 PAL but what's a good method and cheap?

I'm not going to spend too much just for one game.

Okay... I'm a PAL PS2 owner, so I guess McBoot thing is the best economical solution?

It doesn't corrupt itself does it?

Go to the store and grab either a ps1 game to do the title.db exploit or grab action replay max evo (the one with media player) and follow the tutorial found on the freemcboot website. That is the cheapest I can think of and have used/done myself. If you need files and/or instructions you can ask. I find the action replay method is easiest.

EDIT: Here is a link http://freemcboot.info/armax.html

I used fmcb for about a year and a half never had any issues with it.

Also I installed it to my memory card that had all my saves on and nothing bad happened, but to be on the safe side I guess you should back up all your saves first.
