Help with Blu Ray drive?

One of the kids stuck a plastic coin in there. Removed the coin and built it back up and it still wouldn't recognise any discs. Thinking the laser may be dead, I loaded it with the case off and manually adjusting the sliders to raise the tray and recognised both DVD and PS3 games they worked. The thing seems to be continually spinning though even when not playing a disc and only the right side of the tray seems to be moving up and down. Any ides? Any help would be much appreciated.

Not sure what model you have.

But what it sounds like you need to reset the gears. if you remove the couple screws that hold the motor in and lift the motor up. Now you can move the gears freely. Get it set to where it should be then replace the motor.

There are youtube videos on how to reset blu ray drive. Just search for more detail.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I've managed to get the drive loading and ejecting properly and it will read games and DVDs no problem but it seems to spin constantly, never stopping when a disc is inserted, even when you're not playing the disc. Good chance I may be being stupid but I don't think it should be doing that.

May be a faulty logic board?

did you waited a while if it will stop eventually, i know mine spins some time before it even stops.

also mention if it's a drive for fat or slim.

Waited a good 60 seconds and it still was spinning full speed but I wasn't doing anything with it. It's a drive from a fat 40GB PS3 that I remarried to my fat 60GB PS3 about two years ago.

Can't find anything anywhere showing this fault. It's annoying because I know both lasers are working fine. Only thing I can think of trying is to re-marry the drive but I don't think that'll solve anything.
