@Infinite2

You describe your Tv as "HD ready TV (LG 720/1080i) TV"

Are you sure its not just "HD Ready" (see)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_ready

Is your Ps3 set up to output at 1080 but your TV not capable of displaying it ?

I would try on a different TV and lower the PS3's output resolution, then try again on your TV

perhaps y0u could post the make and model number of your TV

Thank you once more for the reply

Few comments:

1. The cable might have a little connection broken that is just enough to throw it out of whack with the TV. But since you tried several cables I dont think this is it. I agree, tried 3 different cables
2. The TV had a firmware update (My internet connected TV updates now and then) TV is kinda old and doesnt connect to the internet. I actually searched for a firmware update on LGs website and there isnt any for my model (42PC1RV)
3. The actual port on the TV got a small dry solder joint that got lose or cracked with heating up and cooling down cycles (very likely) Question: If that is the case, would it affect other devices too? My digital TV receiver and my HTPC are distributed to the same port through my AV receiver and work flawlessly.

One last detail is that when I connect my PS3 to the TV, TV shows that gets some kind of signal (as the "no signal" sign disappears) but I only get black screen.

Unfortunately, TV is not under warranty any more

Thank you very much mate

Regards

@Simonbuck

Yes "HD Ready" is exactly what I mean. Its capable of 720p/1080i output

Both resolutions were tested and worked with my PS3 in the past.

Model is LG 42PC1RV

Last thing I tried today was to plug in my ps3 to my HDMI PC monitor (in which PS3 works great at full HD 1080p), set the display settings to HDMI and manually configured resolution to 720p
(unchecked 1080p and 1080i) so as to be sure that my TV could output that.
Unfortunately that made no difference.

If its useful I can upload a video showing how TV responds when I power up PS3

Thank you for your reply

Regards

I believe this is not the case my friend.

PS3 used to work perfectly on 720p and 1080i on that TV and my HTPC currently works on 1080i.

Also i found this:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasm...g-42pc1rv.html

As you can see it says Supported DTV Resolutions 480p, 720p, 1080i, 480i, 576i, 576p

Again thank you very much

.....
The problem could be that the point in question is the one used for the protection signal. This is why the other devices probably work since they dont need the signal decrypted. This is the only thing I can think of. This will also explain why it shows a device connected but shows a black screen.

Maybe stupid question but did you check the settings from your AV receiver also?

With my Harman Kardon AV receiver I can assign different ports to an input and output, like choosing if it connects to a SVHS or component or standard AV and what kind of signal I want to put in.

Do you have a on screen configuration screen for your AV receiver and can you see it if you want on your TV?

So I assume that if that's the case, only option I have is to send my TV for a service.

I have uploaded a video that shows the problem in case you have another idea.

Again thank you for your help

I m not sure I understand exactly what you mean so feel free to clarify if I am mistaken.

All my devices (Digital Tv, HTPC, PS3) are connected to my receiver's HDMI Hub

AV Receiver's screen shows which input is selected. So yes I m pretty sure that PS3 input is selected when the problem occurs.

Thank you for your reply

Snip

I beg to differ @Infinite2 ... download the Manufacturers Owners manual from here

http://www.electromanuals.org/manuales/lg/32LE2Reng.pdf

look at page 27

TV can receive the video and audio signal simultaneously with using a HDMI cable.
If the digital set-top box supports Auto HDMI function, output resolution of the digital set-top box will be
automatically set to 1280x720p.
If the digital set-top box does not support Auto HDMI, you need to set the output resolution appropriately. To get the best picture quality, adjust the output resolution of the digital set-top box to
1280x720p.
Futher reading would indicate that all though your Tv is capable of inputting images up to 1080i (via rgb connection) it is not capable of outputting them via HDMI.

Again I sugest you connect to another Tv and lower the PS3 output resolution to its lowest setting and try in your TV again

Have you tried connecting the av cable to your tv and after booting up, plug in the hdmi and change the settings (on ps3 video output settings). Then remove the av and see if you get any display
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Or get into recovery menu How to get the Recovery Menu on your PS3 - YouTube and just use the reboot ps3 option (it reboots the av ect). You should be able to do this with hdmi and het display when in the recovery menu
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Use option 1(resets video display after reboot)

My system is the following.

PS3, AV 5:1 receiver (SONY) with hdmi inputs/output and HD ready TV (LG 720/1080i) TV

PS3 is connected to the AV Receiver through HDMI, AV receiver outputs the signal to the TV through HDMI.

This setup used to work great in the past.

I should mention here that i used to take my PS3 to a friends house often but never had problems connecting it back to my system..... well...until now.

Problem is the following:

When i power up my PS3, TV understands that something gets connected ("No Signal" warning goes away) and it just stays there....I get just a blank screen. Only thing that happens is a repetitive change on TVs black variation like something is trying to connect....loosing signal and tries back on. I m not sure i m describing it well but English is not my native language, so sorry for that.

So this is where all the troubleshooting starts.... Things I 've tried:
  • All the "hold the start button" methods, single beep, single beep two short beeps etc...
  • Updated PS3 to latest firmware
  • Restored PS3
  • Factory Settings
  • Used composite cable (which works btw) to manually setup HDMI A/V Settings
  • Used different HDMI Cables
  • Changed HDMI ports in AV Receiver
  • Connected the PS3 directly to the TV
  • Disconnected and unplugged all devices for a while, then started connecting them all back

Having done all that i ruled out the following:
  • My AV receiver is broken. As all other devices connected on it work.
  • PS3 HDMI port of my AV receiver is broken. As the problem kept going on when i plugged PS3 on another working HDMI Port of the AV receiver
  • My TVs HDMI port (my TV has actually one HDMI port as its a bit old) is broken as all other devices work (digital TV and HTPC)
  • My PS3 is somehow broken. As composite cable work just fine.

Only thing left was that PS3 hdmi output was somehow causing the problem.

So I took my PS3, plugged it on my HDMI PC monitor and powered it up. First try was unsuccessful so I tried to hold the start button to reset once more the display settings on my PS3 and BOOM flawless HDMI output on 1080p. I think I cried a little bit when I saw that HDMI port was actually working, so once I unchecked the 1080p output on display settings (as my TV doesn't support that), I unplugged PS3 from my PC monitor and plugged it back to my TV to see that I still had the exact same problem.

Knowing that my standard setup used to work just fine while all my devices PS3, AV Receiver, TV don't seem to have any problem, gets me a bit frustrated and I feel like being at a dead end.

I posted my problem also on PS3 forum but still no useful feedback...

Any help will be much appreciated

Looking forward for your comments

Thank you in advance

Regards

G
Having the exact same problem ... If anyone has a fix please respond this is also driving me crazy
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
This is not a problem with his tv, cable, ps3 or anything like that it's a HDCP issue or handshake issue. So that narrows it down. it would be helpful if people concentrated more on the HDCP issue as he has said everything works fine .. I am having the same problem and it's not to do with any of my devices.. My ps3 works on other tv's and other devices work on my tv. The cable is brand new and it works with everything except my ps3 -> tv. This is the problem he is having and I guess he's power cycled his devices (turned on then off at the wall socket) I have solved this issue before but by chance and I have tried it again just now and .. Nothing

Remember .. This is a HDCP issue not a hardware issue

Any help would be much appreciated by others and myself. Hope to have a fix soon and If I fix mine again I will share my fix

Thanks
