Videogames are on a different category of tax collection here. PC components (and hardware) are cheap, but when it comes to videogames, taxes are high and abusive.

Importing from another country would not work for the same reason: you will have to pay the same import taxes. Smuggling is always an alternative, but this usually means no support/ warranty.

in all south america is the same sh1t (exept paraguay, that is a free taxes country), but there are places where you can buy consoles or pc parts at a rasonable price, you just need to look for a good price... a ps3 here in argentina cost USD 730, and i buy one for USD 390 with a reduced warranty (3 month)

Wow , and totally not worth it , what's the first game gonna be to launch it ? another mario game where he rescues the princess ? ***** needs to get security with AK47's.
It's sad for gamers in brazil , paying for something that there probably will be a couple of good games for like the wii but that's about it. I just hope that a lot of gamers in brazil have jailbroke their ps3's or 360's so they can get games for nothing. But still how can they justify that price ? As far as i've heard the Wii U is crap anyway (i don't know anything about it , just heart it a lot.

Peace to brazil , sucks that the prices are so high but mrc1978 made an awesome point just go on vacation and buy the console in another country and hope you don't get captured at customs :3

Man, this tax makes me crazy! a time ago I bought a wrist watch of a guy from California, I paid 90 bucks on ebay
When the watch arrived in Brazil I had to pay more 90 mothaf***king bucks!

Well, the same watch cost 200 bucks in Brazil and I don't have to wait 15 days to take the item

Yeah, that sucks. In some subjects, our country stills, as we brazilians say, walking with turtle feet. At 2013, Sony states that it will produce consoles here. This can make those products cheaper. But, who knows...
