HDMI->CUSTOM 3D settings?
Hi.
I got a 3.55cfw slim with a bit unusual video output connection: the console is connected to a HDMI switch. So I alternate output between a 2d-flatscreen and a 3d-projector, depending on the material. Both the flatscreen and the projector are 720p in hardware, however, the flatscreen supports 1080i input while the projector can digest 1080p. That's exactly the problem! The only way to enable 3d support on 3.55 is using Automatic detection in HDMI settings. This detects the projector as 1080p and enables 3d features. If I answer no when it detects 1080p, it lowers the resolution and disables the 3d altogether. Step 2 (3d screen inches) just doesn't come at all. Anyway, when I want to use the flatscreen, the PS3 continues to output 1080p which it can't display, and I get a blank screen. To use the flatscreen, I have to fire up the projector first, disable 1080p in Custom HDMI settings mode, and only then switch the output to the flatscreen, which is really frustrating. The other way is to reset video settings, which is even more time-consuming. Any of these procedures is beyond other users in my family skills or comprehension. After disabling 1080p in custom mode, the 3d features are also gone. The only way to re-enable them is using Autodetect again, which switches output to 1080p, and I'm stuck in a dead circle here. My question is: can I somehow disable 1080p while still having 3d features, or better yet, limit output to 720p and still have the 3d features on? Perhaps one of the newer firmwares (4.xx) have a better way to control output? My hardware is native 720p, so are 3d games by HDMI 1.4 specs, so why upscaling anyway. |

@KPAH
You have on Debug setting (QA) one setting for 3D Video Output :Set the video output to 3D. Automatic : video output settings are automatically set. On : force the 3D video output. http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/QA_Flagging |

Well, I QA Flagged, then switched the 3D setting to "ON" while having 720p in the display output (and no 3d functions listed as automatic mode normally does).
Well, it doesn't work: 3d games refuse to enable 3d mode in their settings. So that debug feature is obviously useless. THanks anyway, guess there's no way to override that stupid Sony "smarter than the user" programming. |
