Will 8K be the ultimate TV screen?

If you want the ultimate TV set it has to have at least the same level of definition as the eye can determine.

For smaller screens - some companies claim they are already there - but what about the big screen?

Dan Simmons reports from Tokyo where several of Japan's leading tech brands are working together on an 8,000 pixel wide display which is being called Super Hi-vision.

Awesome,

NHK 8k prototype worth 1million dolars(not for sale)

Sony 4k offering is cheap at 25k.......lol

but I'm still waiting for large/thin OLED HDTV's, that are affordable.

holographic displays had better hurry up. that would be the ultimate.

as for normal tv's, even 80" ones you would have to be sat too close for comfort to notice pixels in anything over 1080p imo

I don't want a tv bigger than 47 inch at 4k res unless I somehow find myself in a HUGE lounge one day. Anything more is pointless and only for show offs. With a 50inch you would have to be far away from it and won't be able to apreciate high res as much

8k one shown is 147" not many houses could fit one of them in(thats another problem and the cost) still 7 years off mind.

4k is out now, 84" Sonys cost 25k, but prices will tumble like everything. Also ther very little native 4K content at the mo, but 1080p can be upscaled to 4K.

Hahaha, yeah "ultimate" sure, maybe for about 10 years, and then there will be something "new" and "better" which will make people start saying "8k" was "crap" :-)

I remember when 720 started appearing, this new "HD" thing, best thing there could ever be, nothing could beat it. Then came "1080".. and now 8k. I place my bets after 8k has been around a while, there will be a new "ultimate" :-).

I don't want things to change that much. I would rather watch TV in 720/1080p, than have those stupid 3D glasses on my nose or some stupid holographical sight.

This is getting ridiculous! Seriously 1080p is plenty clear. Blu rays look almost too real. Maybe 4K is good for 80inch tvs but after that its nonsense.

Always lookin for some kind of "upgrade" that is not really an upgrade so they can phase out 50 inch 1080p tvs in two years that should be $250 bucks so you have no choice but to buy "the new 50 inch 8k 960hz super motion so sports arent blurry super clear but still only blu ray 1080p but upconverted but dont tell me that so my mind thinks its clearer" for only $1599.

Wheres the old 1080p 120hz?? Should only cost me 200-300 by now?? Oh there destroyed.. SMH! :/

Technology is always getting updates. So hard to say which is the 'ultimate'.

I'm sticking with 1080p HD and I am completely satisfied with it so see no reason to get a better TV. It isn't broken so nothing to worry about.
