Well I followed baileyscream's guide from "finishing the downgrade in service mode" and I am back on the XMB!

I used the update file in his zip. It appears to be Rogero CFW 3.1 w/ 4.11 spoof. I installed QA Toggle pkg right after and can confirm that is QA flagged under network settings! So I guess homebrew works?

Oh and all of this was done without the drive plugged in. I'm not sure where to proceed from here. I would like to update it to the latest Rogero but I know updating from the Recovery menu without the Blu-ray drive will not work.

In baileys guide, it clearly states "DO NOT DO THE SERVICE MODE WAY AS I AND OTHERS GET RLOD EVERYTIME IT IS DONE"

I'm guessing I SHOULDN'T try restoring to 3.55OFW or updating to Rogero 4.3 using the FSM method with the dongle?

the blue led comes on when there is a disc in if you have no disc and you have opened the drive then chances are the drive needs resetting.
i think you reset by having the ps3 turned off then press and hold just the eject button. the ps3 turns on then the drive motors start turning as it resets. all this time you keep that eject pressed in.
but i could be wrong. been a while since i reset one.
Is there any way I can update to Rogero 4.30 without using the Recovery menu? I followed your FSM downgrade guide which appears to have worked! System is now on Rogero CFW 3.1. The steps in de-hashing require recovery menu which isn't gonna work for me.

I think the drive sensor is bad. The other ribbons look fine to me. I'm just glad to be back on the XMB for now. Trying to figure out what to do now...

What firmware are you on now?

That model you can update without the drive installed. Since the logic board is built into the motherboard.

I would say put your drive back together, and put it back in your PS3. Update to Rogero 4.30 and do the blu ray fix in multMAN like baileyscream suggested.

Make sure Qa flag is toggled on, with the button combo before you update. It should of already been toggled on, because I left it on. But if you ran toggle qa app, then it toggled off.

Rogero 3.1 CFW w/ 4.11 Spoof

How should I update to Rogero 4.30? XMB or FSM? Is it safe to go to the latest Rogero from the one I'm currently on?

QA flag is toggled on. I confirmed by pressing the buttons under Network Settings

Can I try the Blu-ray fix in Multiman with the current FW I'm on?

Ok, Qa flag is on. Keep it on. Delete the app, no reason to toggle it again.

Make sure you have the latest multiMan installed.

Install OFW 3.55 from the recovery menu.
Then install Rogero 4.30 from the XMB.

I think the blu ray fix in multiman should work on any CFW. But I would try it how @baileyscream stated on Rogero 4.30.

I can't install any FW from the recovery menu. That was the whole reason why my HD got corrupted in the first place. It just hangs and will not read the USB drive until a Blu-ray drive is detected.

Only reason I was able to get Rogero 3.1 on was due to FSM

I don't understand why it would do that.

Unless you didn't have the PUP file named correctly or in the correct file path.

Your flash drive should be formatted to fat32. and the file path is: PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

It should work. It worked when I had it.

That is probably because the Blu-ray drive was working when you had it.

When doing a system update in Recovery, it checks these devices in this order:

PS3 HDD - Bluray laser - CD laser - USB 0 - USB 1

With the Blu-ray not working, the system hangs and therefore will not search the USB drive for the update file.

Rogero just came out with a new CFW that doesn't require downgrading

Do you think I can do an XMB update to that with the current FW I'm on?

Yeah, install that from the xmb and then try the blu ray fix in mm.

EDIT - I dehashed the console, without the blu ray drive connected. That model can install firmware without a blu ray drive attached.

just so were all on the same page with how your update failed.

when you say it just hangs part.

you have the update.bin in a folder called UPDATE and that folder in another folder called PS3 and that folder on your usb stick that has nothing else but this folder on it?

when you put the usb stick on the ps3 you then go into the xmb and under "update" you select from mass storage

does it then tell you it has found say "3.55" update?
you then go through the 3 pages and it starts transfering the update from the usb stick then restarts the ps3

it now starts the update but hangs somewhere here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

or do you go into recovery menu by having the ps3 off press and hold power it beeps as it turns on then it givs 1 beep then soon after a second beep and system turns off
you then press and hold power again and it beeps as it turns on then a single beep then soon after a bouble beep. you let go of power button here then a menu comes on screen with 6 options.
you select 6. system update

does it then tell you it has found say "3.55" update?
you then go through the 3 pages and it starts transfering the update from the usb stick then restarts the ps3

it now starts the update but hangs somewhere here?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the order of checking
hdd >> bdvd>>>mass storage usb1 >> mass storage usb0

if you unplug the power from the ps3 wait 1min then plug it back in then it will actually look at usb0 (closest to dvd drive) first
this is due to the fsm dongle. even though you havent pressed power>eject to activate the fsm it still looks at usb0 from a cold start i have no idea why though

yes you still need to downgrade if your above 3.55 and on ofw

6- You need to be already on a 3.55OFW or 3.55CFW/4.21CFW/4.30CFW to install this. Installing from any OFW > 3.55 won't work. (Hardware Flasher needed)
