EDIT - I dehashed the console, without the blu ray drive connected. That model can install firmware without a blu ray drive attached.
Updated to Rogero 4.30 v 2.03. Multiman not working. Used his downgrader PUP to get back to 3.55/4.21 Hybrid CFW. Tried installing other homebrew and none of them are loading as well. Results in a black screen

I think Razblade77 mentioned awhile ago that I might need to remarry the logic board?

when you say it just hangs part.

or do you go into recovery menu by having the ps3 off press and hold power it beeps as it turns on then it givs 1 beep then soon after a second beep and system turns off
you then press and hold power again and it beeps as it turns on then a single beep then soon after a bouble beep. you let go of power button here then a menu comes on screen with 6 options.
you select 6. system update

does it then tell you it has found say "3.55" update?
you then go through the 3 pages and it starts transfering the update from the usb stick then restarts the ps3

it now starts the update but hangs somewhere here?
XMB updates are fine. Recovery menu updates does not work. It hangs at "Checking...Please wait" It doesn't even get to scanning the USB drive to finding the update file.

Anyhow, I got it updated to Rogero 4.30 via XMB but Multiman doesn't work. All homebrew results in a black screen. Stuck on what to do now

no harm in trying it

remarry blueray player

go HERE and download remarry-3.55.rar

extract the remarry-3.55.rar
the 3.33fw PS3UPDAT.PUP is allready in the correct folder.
in the folder there is a read me. read it
you need a blue ray film for it to work with just a blue ray game disk

PHAT ps3's will lose blueray film playback.

I'm on a hybrid 3.55 FW that shows 4.21 in system settings from Rogero's Downgrader PUP. Will that be problematic?

it should still be 3.55
but it may be better to just put a rogero 3.55 on.
but i dont think you can from the xmb i think you have to install rogero 3.55 from recovery menu

if it doesnt from xmb then try formatting the usb stick (full format) then put the files back on the stick and try from recovery.

if it still wont then try the fsm downgrade files to put you back on rogero

you will get the NG letters also when there's a disc inside or i guess when the ps3 thinks there's one in while it's not.

did you tried to press eject when you are loading homebrew and have a black screen?

i had a problem with a drive where the ps3 was also confused if something was inside, pressing eject would sometimes clear it's mind.
