the NG as @Mr.Dutch has said is the system thinking a disc is in the drive.
if you unplug / remove the drive then the blue led on the eject button comes on.
so with the drive out the system thinks a disc is in (this has no effect on the de-hash stage though)

so i am wondering if one of the micro switches is being pressed inside the drive somewhere. if it is this would point to the drive needing to be reset.
did you try the drive reset?

**removed bad advice. corrected by player a few posts on**

did you open your drive to access the ffc (ribon cable) better? you may have moved something inside the drive by mistake.

also try unplugging the white wires coming from the power supply to mainboard at both sides. then plug it back in ( i doubt this will do anything but it will atleast rule it out as a fault)

the disc_in switch should be pressed by the mechanism when there's no disc inside, and should read 0 ohm.

at least this is how the fat's drive operates.

@SogeKingOP ,just curious, if you turn on the ps3 dous the blue led blink for a while?

unplug power cable press and hold eject plug power cable in
the ps3 should turn on then the drive should start moving (you should here the motors turning.

Regardless of the drive being in or uplugged. I have not seen a Blue LED

The top switch above the circle is pressed in

If all three switches are pressed in, the console turns on. I tried the drive reset. CPU Fan just goes max speed and turns off after couple seconds. I do not hear the motor or the Blu-ray drive working at all.

I've reseated the ribbon cables so many times now. I even got a replacement from playerpk420 for one of them and same results.

For this particular model, the logic board is built in the motherboard right? Shouldn't the remarry or software upgrade/downgrades work without the drive being plugged in?

I have not seen a BLUE LED once ever since I got the console back.

Just gone done measuring with the multimeter. Got 09.5 Ohms. Nothing from DC/V. Motor/switch possibly broken?

@SogeKingOP

That is the fan test.

To reset the drive, just hold the eject button for like 15 seconds, or untill you hear the gears moving.

I held the eject button for awhile. Don't hear any motor or gears working. PS3 turns off after.

I'm thinking maybe the drive sensor board with the motor is broken after measuring with the multimeter.

If that were the case, would I be exhibiting the same problems I am now? Or would the PS3 still be able to operate fine without that sensor?

the force eject thing should normally work, even if those switches don't work.

if you look at the switches from the fat's drive (the pdf) it's powered by 3,3V_ever, meaning this power is always on, even on standby mode.

and it should be, else the system won't turn on when you insert a game.
so basically on one side of the switches you should measure at least 3,3V.

the ic that powers the motor is operating at 12v.

my drive suffers from the same symptom, but as far as i know my ps3 was dropped by the original owner, but still in my case it isnt a mechanical or motor issue.

i swapped things with a spare drive to test, although one ribbon cable look suspicious.

EDIT: since you don't see a blue led ,looking at my own issue, in most cases the blue led is on when the ps3 is confused about game in or not, when it's off, i can press eject to clear the ps3.
