[QUESTION] OtherOS

If you install for example Linux will it stay up there when you upgrade to a firmware that has the OtherOS feature removed?

Reason for asking this when I was changing firmwares, I still had an original PS3 disc in the console. I remember reading through the tutorials you don't suppose to do that but I was fortunate enough to get 3.01 ofw.

The reason for not having a disc in the drive during fw changes is so the ps3 doesn't load up the fw contained on the disk. It could mess up your ps3.

I think OtherOS is dependant on the FW supporting it.

the OtherOS Stays on the HDD You cannot access it though. As the option gets removed, You have to format your HDD to remove it.

Okay so the OtherOS function is pointless, unless I want to use it to install Linux easier and stay on that firmware.

What about running Linux on 4.xx cfws, to be more specific 4.30 Rogero v2; Are there any methods similar to how 3.55 kmeaw was capable of running Linux?

ontopic: btw Rebug is working on getting full Otheros support as on 3.55, they have asked for lv2 dumps from NOR and NAND, so anyone with NAND on rebug send them some bytes so it be fixed quiker, really adicted to this firmware, don't get me wrong about Rogero etc...awsome to but rex is amazing then u have it all and sometime it needs a gamefix...don't be lazy
