So it's totally safe, from this i think is OFW 3.55. Use the QA toggle?
The problem is that i'm not sure where in your guide i am.
Safe to start from here?

Insert your downgrade dongle in the right USB port.
Plug in power cable or switch back on.
Press POWER then EJECT in that order within a split second. and wait for the PS3 to shut off by itself.
Note-Step 1 and Step 2 folders are inside FACTORY/SERVICE MODE folder from downgrade any pack.
Place the Lv2diag.self and Rogero_V3.7_PS3UPDAT.PUP from the step 1 folder onto a USB Flash drive and rename Rogero_V3.7_PS3UPDAT.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP.
Replace the downgrade dongle with the flash drive in the farthest right USB port.
Turn on your PS3. Wait. In about 3-5 minutes your PS3 will shut off.
Take the flash drive back to the computer and quick format to fat32.
Place the Lv2diag.self from the step 2 folder onto the flash drive.
Put the flash drive back into the farthest right port of the PS3, turn on and wait, in about 30 - 45 seconds it will shut down again.
Take out the flash drive, then turn on your PS3. The first thing you will see is Rogero when your PS3 boots up.
Now you need to repeat Chapter 1 Part 2 Make some bios backups. This is IMPORTANT in case you brick while installing other firmwares.

Unhappy

Hi guys, if you don't mind I'm going to highjack this thread, since I have the same "connect the controller with a usb cable" issue.

My "tools":
- Slim PS3 CHECH-2004B (OFW 4.31)
- Slim PSP 2000 (CFW 5.50 GEN-D3)
- E3 Flasher Limited Edition
- PS3Jig app on PSP

My goal:
- Downgrade PS3 to 3.55, to then be able to upgrade to OFC 4.21 (long story)

I have done:
- Install E3 Flasher
- Backup original NOR memory
- Test the backup
- Patch it with Rogero's patcher
- Flash the NOR memory with the patched version
- Turn off PS3 completely
- Load PS3Jig on the PSP, then connect the PSP to the furthest right USB port
- Power the PS3, then turn it on, pressing [RESET] right after [POWER]
- The PSP connects without problem and tests the connection by sending the PS3Jig request and receiving a reply, completing the request with 'Done'

The problem:
- The PS3 shows picture, displaying the request to connect a controller to the USB
- Therefore, I cannot enter FSM to continue with the downgrade process
- Tried different PSP firmware versions 6.60, 5.03, 5.50; temp CFWs, permanent CFWs...

Additionally:
- Plugging a controller asks for firmware 4.31; attempting to install it will trigger an error message due to corrupted data
- Reflashing the NOR memory with the original back will allow 4.31 to install normally and get back on XMB

I'd like to think the problem is the PSP, but before I go ahead and spend money on a dongle I'd like to confirm that first...
I already wasted a week checking several forums, youtube videos, wiki pages and so far I'm yet to see or read about someone succeeding in a PS3 downgrade while having a Slim PS3 and a Slim PSP... So, if you are out there I'd love to hear from you and help me figure out what I'm doing wrong!

Apologies for the bump, but I'd really love some feedback. I'm curious if I'm overlooking something due to having multiple guides simultaneously...
