The guy said even if the code was released you'd still need to buy the circuit board & do all the soldering etc and you came back with this reply?

He was talking about the ODE.
If the code for how to make the ODE was released, you'd still need to buy everything required & make it yourself. You can't make a software solution for this because you need a circuit board between the motherboard & the blu ray drive. This circuit board fakes the responces back to the PS3 that the blu ray drive would give, it basically fools the PS3, it makes the PS3 think the blu ray drive is responding when really it isn't & in fact the game is being loaded from a USB drive.

Everybody already knows the cobra dongle isn't needed & all the functions can be done in CFW. You do realise the ODE and the dongle are different products right?

Just thinking out loud here but it does make sense for cobra to make an ODE because if you think about it, the only thing that the ODE won't be able to play tha the cobra dongle can will be PSP games. Seeing as it is an optical drive emulator then on a backwards compatible ps3 all or most PS1 PS2 & PS3 ISOs should run. So the xk3y would make some cobra features available on any ps3.

Also, when the ODE key is released would it be possible to use PS3gen to write homebrew apps as Disc games, making them bootable on any PS3, again am just thinking aloud, maybe a dev could tell us if that is possible, and maybe there is the possibilty that any PS3 could be exploited that way.

Its possible.. you just need to know the hex bytes to change to make a master disk (what psgen produces) into a retail disk

I have heard they have a way to connect to pc via an adapter and it extracts the key through this method!

After reading posts about supporting/buying Cobra , I lost some IQ points.... Also, I bet there is a huge chance that it can be patched/disabled by sony in the future. Finally, if you want to play backups, which I highly doubts they are backups... downgrade your ps3.

The main reason why this will (most likely) be successful is to allow those users, who cannot downgrade/install CFW, to run backups. Plain and simple.

The moment the last keys will be discovered, thus allowing the above users the means of installing CFW, that will be the end of any ODE device.
