so i just purchased a used PS3 off ebay, it's a CECH-2001a and came with 3.55 on it. all i am really looking to do is play backups, but i'm not totally sure which guide i should be following to jailbreak. i see there is a tutorial here:

that shows how to put Kmeaw CFW on, but from reading other posts it looks like REBUG is the CFW of choice. what is the difference? in the REBUG tutorial there is a lot of talk of DEX and CEX and REX, what are all these and how do i use them and why do i need them?

also once i get everything installed, which program do i use to backup my games and create an iso or whatever? and what do i do with this file once i have it, do i need an external HD or can i use the internal one?

Rogero CFW 4.30 v 2.04 CEX firmware is your best choice if you are just looking to game.

Multiman is about as good as they get I use it personally. and yes the internal can be used but I highly advise buying an extenal.... it will fill fast.

@vergro My favorite FW from the scene would have to be Rebug fw. REX is very much a great fw that has other benefits. The very first thing I would do if I was you however would be
1)Install KMEAW 3.55
2)Install Toggle QA pkg(TRUST ME)
3)Run the Toggle QA app and test that it works.

From there you should be future proofed, and I would then install REX 4.21 firmware(you can use other peoples game saves on this fw).
Install the latest version of Multiman so you can copy back ups to your internal hard drive, or external hard drive... or if you do enough reading you can even load games that are stored on your PC via network.

From what I understand Rogero is a basic CFW with everything you need, but REBUG REX 4.21 is a more complicated CFW with more options than you could shake a stick at, and the easy option to switch from CEX CFW to DEX and back again at will

rogero is more simple and easy. i always use rogero (personal choise).
i will use rebug only if I have a dead bluray so i can use dex features.
