Hi! I am somewhat new to the PS3 scene, but I recently managed to install the latest Rogero firmware on my CECHA01 (backwards compatible) PS3 along with the latest multiman.
My main purpose to install Rogero was for backups. I have a lot of ps1 and ps2 backups. My ps1 backups play perfect in multiman (im assuming my ps3 backups play fine too), however, my ps2 backups won't load. It shows the game in the multiman, but hitting the "X" button does nothing. After doing some research, there is basically two methods to get ps2 backups to load: 1) Swap Magic and 2) Cobra Dongle. Now, here is the question I have: Since I have installed Rogero's firmware, if I purchase the Cobra Dongle, and insert it into my ps3, will I be able to play ps2 backups? Or will I have to downgrade and install the Cobra firmware first? My hopes are that I just have to plug the Cobra Dongle USB in and it will work. Can someone answer this for me? Thanks!

No cobra dongle will not work on rogero 4.30 v2.xx CFW.
Cobra are working on 4.3x CFW for their DRM riddled dongle, so you could wait for that... The alternative is for you to use the FSM PS2 tool and stay on 3.55 with your BC console.

So, basically (assuming I choose to wait for the new Cobra) once the new Cobra product comes out, I purchase it, plug it into my ps3, and then I'll be able to play ps2 backups? Will I have to install another firmware...?

Yes you would need to flash their new cobra 4.3x CFW (whenever it comes out) ODDE device: You would need to solder it on to the PS3 to use it and have a base FW of 3.55 to extract drive keys (or have an installed CFW to extract the keys) It's all hearsay until something more than announcements show up on their website. F*ck DRM though, lets hope rebug figures out psx/psp/ps2 backups in future.

Is this still the case? I mean, with Multiman 4.30 and Rogero 4.40 there is a message that says to insert a Cobra Dongle, so will it now work without a Cobra CFW?
I know that there are new developments in loading PS2 ISO, but I heard that those methods use emulation instead of the PS2 hardware in older consoles and I would rather have full compatibility. If it would still require the Cobra CFW though I wouldn't bother with it. It's bad enough to have to keep a dongle inserted (taking up a USB slot), but it would be worse if I had to keep it inserted 24/7 to have any features of a CFW. I can understand developers wanting to be paid for their work, but the dongle is just a DRM device. On a related question, would this enable backups in hardware mode, or is it just going to use emulation? EDIT: The updated question also applies to the new Rogero 4.41 and MultiMan 4.40. Also, can MultiMAN load PSP games? Last edited by Elliander; 2 Weeks Ago at 11:33 PM. |
