I recently got a PS3 CECH-2001A 120 GB with OFW4.31. I wanna crack that sucker open and install a chip. Should I go with the E3 suite? (http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/...Jailbreak.html)

I would go with E3 since you can leave it installed and the installation is pretty easy.

Awesome, thank you for the prompt reply! Should I get the standard E3 kit or the deluxe all-in-one limited edition? That is to say, do I -need- everything in the limited edition kit?

Is there also a recommended (reliable/trustworthy/customer service) mod chip site to purchase from?

No you only need the E3 NOR Flasher and a downgrade dongle such as PS3key.

Wait, time out... I need to buy and install a flasher AND buy a separate dongle? That sounds a little ridiculous. I thought the E3 flasher was all the hardware necessary for downgrading.

Upon further inspection; What about PSFreedom? I have an HTC Hero lying around as a backup phone, can I use a PSF port as a downgrade dongle?

Yes, you can use a port of PSgrade/PSFreedom on your HTC as long as you have it rooted and also if you are lucky enough to find the files you will need still available on the internet.

I just recommend buying a PS3key dongle from www.modchipcentral.com since they only run about 9 dollars and there is almost no work required to use it and the FSM files are easily obtainable still........

The dongle is only needed for entering Factory Service Mode (FSM) so having to root out your HTC phone and prepare it for use for FSM just isn't worth the trouble.

My phone is rooted, of course . I guess, if the dongle is cheap enough, I'll just go with that.

I also have a jailbroken PSP 1000 model. I'm gonna try PS3Jig with that first. Now I just need to order the E3 Flasher. (:

You need to have the PSP on 5.50 GEN-D CFW for it to work properly.

you do not need any dongle.Just use the Three mouskthers Nor Patcher and go right from 4.21 to cfw4.30E3 .I have done many this way.
