Cecha01 refuse to start even after reflow.

Hi!

I bought a broken cecha01 without harddrive and was planing to fix it. When I first tested it, it started fine with a green light but no video or audio on any output.

So I opened it up and it was not put together correctly so I applied new thermal paste and cleaned everything up and put it together correctly. When I started it I got the green - yellow - red light, three beeps and flashing red light.

So I assumed it was YLOD and tried the oven reflow. Still the same result so I tried the heatgun reflow but still the same result. I tried the washer trick to with no result.

I have tried with and without the bluray drive connected with the same result. No difference with a newly NTFS formatted harddrive.

Is there anything else that could be broken? I should mention that the PS3 is a NTSC and I´m from Sweden so I feed it with 220V. This shouldnt be a problem right since the PSU states 110-220V?

Thankfull for any tips!

A cracked solder joint isnt the only cause of the YLoD. Also at what temp and for how long did you stick the ps3 in the oven? Most people do it at too low a temp or for way too long at too high a temp.

flux should always be used also. failing to use it can result in weak oxidized joints or a dry joint

Oven reflows have a lot of risks. And they usually don't get hot enough to significantly melt solder. You need a heat gun. I used an oven and pieces of the motherboard started falling off lol.

Use about 1 part rosin and 2 parts isopropyl (2-proponol) and let it flow under the rsx. Use the heat gun to make sure it's in there good, but it's not needed. It should work.

-thanks to acab.

a 12V faillure would also result in a ylod thing.
check the 4 wire power connector and or the cable if its damaged.

if you hear the fan starting up for a moment then i guess the 12V is fine.
usually you also hear a clicking sound from within the psu. (on startup)

Question

I would use a reflow station not a oven reflow or a heatgun reflow you might have damaged the board worst.
