i have a WD 3tb usb 3.0 and it work, like usb 2.0, but it work (formated in fat32)

i think any usb 3.0 hdd should work with your ps3, so dont worry about that

My Seagate 2Tb USB3.0 works perfect here

Best go for an external HDD with its own power supply...

What does that mean? And what do look for as far as specs for the spindown?

hdds with power save features usually make the drive spindown (sleep basically after a while of inactivity) meaning that when it needs to be accessed again it can take a while to be fully active again causing lag or crashes in worst case

my WD mybook 3tb external likes to spindown and on pc, even with power settings changed to off and it pisses me off (not used it on ps3 as im on ofw) as it can take up to 15 sec to open a video file if it was spundown

my buffalo 1tb external never had the issue

I was thinking since i was probably gonna get one with its own power supply.
To stop the power save spin down..what if i buy an internal with a hard drive encloser.
Wouldnt this stop the spindown??

it depends on the controller within the enclosure, not the power supply
i would have thought there would have been more people sharing their external models here so you could get an idea of model to buy.

i doubt there are many like mine that decide to sleep too quickly but as i said, my WD is a pain but my buffalo is fine
