the laser bounces and shows blue with the other board, with the original the laser body moves but doesn't bounce and light up.

So the ribbons are ok and i assume the voltage is there as it works on the other board.

it did start to work once from puling out the power and inserting it back in, suggesting a dry joint, but it is a lacquered board and it is proving difficult to desolder the MX chip

swapped the MX chip and the 14 leg JRC chip, (next to the laser ribbon connector)

now the disc spins and shows red for a dvd but doesnt read it. and with a blu ray disc is spins twice and does light up blu but just spins fast twice and stops.

the thing is i did transfer the chips from a BMD-002 board to a 001 board as i do not have a spare 002.

ive checked the legs and they all seem to be seated ok and soldered home

i bet those parts are identical..

you probably have other issues
