You just can't. Go ahead to try, if you think you can do what 1000's others cannot that easily. Honestly. Your question was dumb. Nothing would come of it ofc, at least nothing good - since it would be known, if such a simple thing worked. Now, to answer your question, if it perhaps was a question of pure curiosity, and you knew it wouldnt work: No it wouldnt brick. It wouldn't do anything. The keys we use to sign (authenticate) the firmwares with, so the PS3 believes its an authentic PS3 firmware from Sony, those keys have been blacklisted in firmwares newer than 3.55, which uses a new keyset that we cannot retrieve as they have fixed their cryptographic fail that allowed us to get them in the first place. ![]() The fact that we have the bootloader changes nothing in that regard. We might be able to decrypt everything now, but we still cannot encrypt the firmwares that we decrypt and change, as the private keys used for signing the altered firmware isn't stored in the firmware ![]() ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* It, however, hasn't been implemented in a mainstream program and perhaps never will, unless someone finds it neccessary enough. |

First is not possible as with enough time one can break it, but the second is achievable and that is what Sony has exactly have done this time around apparently.

i think our devs should work on a downgrade exploit rather then upgrading ofw with cfw. as the ps3 firmware is stored on the nand, this is where to start. if there was some way to completely wipe the firmware off the nand, and then boot in the ps3 repair mode, and then install 3.50 this would be realy helpful as am aware no one wants to open up there ps and start soldering.
