It would be cool if Wii U could someday be used as a Blu-ray Player, but I can't hold my breath for this since Nintendo made its own BD proprietary disc format which probably can't read normal Blu-rays at all.
When Wii was hacked, it got the ability to play DVDs but who'd play DVDs on a Wii.. |

Never say never. Nintendo seem to be making very similar mistakes they made on Wii all over again (starlet/"starbucks" and the ability to run hombrew from day 0). DVDx could evolve into BDx, or Nintendo could take a grip on the situation and bring out a BD playing update but I have no idea on the hardware side of it if the WiiU drive IS even capable of full BD playback. ... if it is: I would recon a hack is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more likely... or WiiUMC

Don't believe the nonsense touted on ignorant gaming sites that they developed their own optical disk format. I suppose technically it's a different format but in reality it's just a BD with extra physical copy protection as with the PS3. Which means if the Wii-U gets hacked, it will read BD-R. When that happens, I'm sure physical changes will be made to the drive like with the Wii much later in it's life, but until then very much doubt they have made those changes, if history is anything to go by, companies react, instead of being proactive from the beginning. |

Well, if Wii U ever becomes capable of playing Blu-ray Discs, I'll definitely be interested, but until then, not so much.
I saw a list of multiplatform games and from the 55 titles, Wii U only had 8 in total but by 2013 I'd expect things to change. Nintendo would be mad not to have Race Driver GRID 2 and GTA V on Wii U. |
