IT all depends. If it starts dying, surely it will cascade fast and the majority of the mainstream scene will leave in the avalance. But no doubt, the embers of the scene will last way longer than that. It will probably be restructured, less newcomers and less noobs. It would rather be represented by die-hard people that were already in the scene.

After reading all the posts im starting to guess that PS4 is going to to be a goddam disaster in therms of sales , at least in the beginning !!

And one more thing about this subject , i think that the BOOOM that this scene needs is a CFW that can be installed from any OFW or at least from 4.25 , if this would happen it would be a ballon of oxygen to the scene , but its doomed to happen cause those keys will never leave sonny , in a funny way also if this was possible i think it would also boost the sales of PS3 this last year , my self i dont think i will ever buy a PS again , but you can never say never !

PS3 is coming back now more than ever, there is no official release date for PS4 so its hard to say how long anything will last. However, with Xbox360 losing popularity (pretty drastically too) and support... I think anyone with common sense can tell you the PS3 is finally starting to come out of it's shell. CFW doesn't make much of a difference when it comes to how long a system will last. I have my Wii hacked to the max with stuff most hackers have never seen before but I haven't touched it once since I got my PS3 (and hacked it in under 10 mins). I know any smart developer/hacker would buy the very first model of any system because they are more likely to have exploits, sales are always huge right away, dwindle, and then pick up as the scene explodes, history will always repeat itself :P

If the PS3Scene lives or dies depends on more than one thing:
1. Will & will we want to hack/jailbreak the PS4?
2. If we do what will Sony do? They might relock whatever is opened but will they go after the hacker by legal methods, like they did with the PS3 scene
3. Now that most games will be more online based, there will come a point that without PSN the new games might not work at all, this points to the obvious question who wants to take on PSN??!! Not many I guess, also who wants to make an alternative Network to play their PS's on.

All this points to one thing, is it even worth hacking the PS4 when it comes out, will anyone be bothered to do so. If just for the challenge of using/creating their own homebrew or installing Linux yes certain devs would be interested, but al those who want to play backed up games then seeing as the backed up games would limp around with PSN then no.

This all comes back therefore to will we take care of our free ps3's? I will certainly. And as long as there are others like me then 'defacto' a scene exists in whatever form (as long as we keep communicating with each other). The reason I believe the console which can be hacked are being hacked and no attempts seem to be made to hack the latter end of the ps3's in production as there is no real joy to be had to be done so. The new consoles are inferior machines to the regular slim and phats. ANd they are certainly more inferior than modern PCs now. I hate to admit it but the Cell processor is not as sexy as it used to be. People who do the REAL hacking want even more powerful machines to hack now. Would you hack a PS1 or just not bother?

I think the ps3 scene will jump after the ps4 comes out. I think some one has already found a way to hack ofw 4.31 and they just dont want to release it like they did not want to release the other keys ( pirates ). After the game list runs low and/or out for the ps3 it will be released. Releasing it now would be bad for the game devs and further hurt the over all ps4 in the long run. As much as i like the ps3 you cant tell me the xbox would not have walked the dog with it if it was not so easy to flash the drive to pirate games. Now after the game list stops for the ps3 ppl will not worry about pirates as much cause if you have not bought the game by then you more then likely never will.

Well lets see....to me i dont even wanna think that my beloved ps3/secne will die cause i feel really uncomtible bout it knwing that such a powerful console will go to waste without actually unlocking its full potential....the ps3 is one console i keep close to my heart,and i have had my share of different consoles,but the ps3!!!...is a really special one to me and wouldnt want another console ever to come out ever cause to me my ps3 is one of a kind....!!

If they have indeed found the keys to ofw4.31 it was done probably a long time ago. To proper hackers who can speak C++ or whatever they code in the ps3 is too old and I hate too say it retarded in-front of new PCs. The machines on the market are a whole new level, but for its time the PS3 was unbelievable and the first time a console had given the PC gaming arena a run for their money... That was 10 years ago. PCs now would kick the arse of a PS3 up, down left and right and back again. BTW I'm saying this after being a PS3 fanboy for a long time. I maintain they just wouldn't be bothered with it now. I'm not saying they cant, but why would they. If they have as you suggest and could possibly correct then I agree it wont be released until the games list has dried up or I would add the PS4 has been released (which would/should lead to the list drying up within a year. I think the devs don't really care how Sony fares with the PS4 as the way Sony treated devs after the original 3.41 JB kind of pissed them off (or was it them closing down of Linux which triggered it - it was a while back now) I remember that they produced certain titles for the ps3 as well as the ps2 for a while (NFS Carbon for example)

I do not know where the xbox360 using the ps3 to walk the dog came into it but i am not going down that road. My friends love the xbox360, i love the ps3, the arguments went on for a while... but to what end? They are & were (comparing to PCs) great machines. And why argue over console brands? They make money while we fight over which console's d!©k is bigger than the other. Stupid if you ask me, Microsoft & Sony go laughing to the Bank and we verbally fight over nothing.

Whether or not the scene will jump after the PS4 remains to be seen. I have my opinion that as most gaming will be online so hacking a console for piracy purposes will be pointless. You have a right to a different opinion which you do and I will respect that.
