Formating PS3 with cfw 4.3 Rogero?

Hey All,

I got a PS3 (fat) with CFW 4.3 Rogero yesterday and I wanted to know what I need to do to get a fresh CFW with the most important homebrews/apps.

So what does happen if I format my internal HDD?
Does the CFW reset to OFW? Or from 4.3back to 3.55?

After I did format my PS3 what Homebrews are a must do?

I know of MultiMan only (from the guy i got the PS3 from) but no more.
Maybe a PSP emulator (I own a PSP but the buttons dont work anymore) if there is one?

And regarding MultiMan
Is it possible to play Backuped Games from a external HDD?
Should the exHDD be ntfs or FAT32 formated?

I hope you all dont mind my many questions and help me out of my "misery"^^

PS: I hope this is not the wrong Thread
edit:PAL->FAT32

Usually I'd give a sarcastic remark here and not offer any help but you seem like you've done a tiny amount of research so....

1. When you install a CFW it's exactly the same as an OFW, if you format the hard drive. You will need to install that CFW again, you will not revert to an older OFW/CFW.

2. On slim consoles part of the firmware is stored on the hard drive and that is the reason you have to re-install it again. You will not lose your CFW. Obviously you will lose the contents of your hard drive

3. With the latest (as of this post), Rogero 4.30 V2.03 firmware you can install it directly via XMB over ANY 3.55 or belo OFW/CFW.

4. Your first port of call after that would be to install Multiman, yes it can run "backups" from the internal drive as well as any external USB device. That USB device must be formatted as FAT32 - Multiman will NOT load games on a USB drive formatted with any other file system. I don't know what you mean by "PAL", you are confused there, PAL as video standard used in european countries and has nothing whatsoever to do with anything you have asked about.

5. To install Multiman after installing the Rogero firmware, put the downloaded Multiman "pkg" file (make sure you download the "full" Multiman, not the "update" one) on a USB stick, in the root of it. Go to "App Home" on the XMB and it will change to "Install Package Files" select that, it will then load after a few seconds, pick your Multiman pkg with the "X" button, then press "Triangle" to reboot. Once the PS3 has reboot chose the new icon that has appeared on the XMB in the Game section, you may have to press "Triangle" on it to get an "install" option.

6. Multiman will now be installed, and selectable from the "Game" section. You can start it now and put a PS3 game in the bluray drive and rip it to either the internal or external drive if you have one connected. It's worth noting that there are a sprinkling of games that cannot be run from the external because they have files bigger than 4GB which is the limit of a FAT32 file system, these games must be run/backed up to the internal drive.

7. If you have your games backed up to your PC and wish to get them on your PS3 you can simply plug in your external drive into your PC and copy the game folder (usually starts BLUS/BLES etc) to a folder called "GAMES" on the external drive, for example.

E:\GAMES\Your-game-folder-here-that-starts-BLES-or-BLUS

To save space, you can also delete the "PS3_UPDATE" folder for each game you have which is located immediately below the main game folder of each game.

8. If you have games backed up (god knows how but we won't go there) that have files bigger than 4GB, then you will not be able to do this since they can't be placed on the external drive. For that you will need to start Multiman, which has a built in FTP server, then install an FTP client on your pc, noting down the IP address of your PS3 which you can see at the bottom of the Multiman screen, you can then login with the FTP client on the PC (there's plenty of free ones but I use "WinSCP", you do not need to enter any special password/login but you DO need to enter SOMETHING in the FTP client).

Once you have logged in to your PS3, brows to HDD0/GAMES (can't quite remember the exact path, but it's HDD0 then look for the "GAMES" folder in capitals - NOT the "game" folder

That is where you should transfer any PS3 games across to, they will then show up in Multiman after selecting "refresh" in Multiman.

That should be all you need to climb aboard the jolly roger ship and set sail
There are no decent emulators for the PS3 for modern systems that work well, you're basically limited to NeoGeo/Genesis/SNES and consoles of that generation's power for decent emulation.
There isn't any homebrew worth getting to be honest. The PS3 hasn't had a great following by skilled homebrew developers. There's a couple of file managers that are quite good but to be honest Multiman surpasses them anyway.

Regarding the reformat:

You are saying in 1. "...You will need to install that CFW again..."
and in 2."...You will not lose your CFW..." since I dont have a slim version

Lets say I simply run the "System Recovery" option in the PS3 menu now.
It will only wipe out everything EXCEPT the cfw?
Meaning I only need to install MultiMan again and everything is ready to go?

btw Thank You for the fast reply!

edit: I just realised under "Systeminformation" my software version is listed as "Version 4.31"
wasnt the most up to date one 4.30?

(My native language is not english so its kinda hard to understand everything)

I won't quote all that again as it's quite a mouthful...

If you are on Rogero 4.30 it will say you are on 4.31 in the system information to stop any PS3 games updating your firmware making them think your PS3 is really on 4.31, it's called a "spoof". It's just there to protect you, the firmware itself is actually 4.30. It means that any PS3 game disk with 4.31 firmware on it will not try and tell you to update!

No what I'm saying regarding the firmware is that part of the firmware is stored on the hard drive, so like you would with OFW too, if you format the hard drive you will have to install it again. You won't "lose" your CFW/OFW, you still have to put the same firmware that was on there before on again.

So you're not losing it, as in losing the CFW and being forced back to OFW.

You with me?

You WILL have to install it again, but you won't have to go through any special steps, it's just a matter of providing the firmware that you wiped again.

Just make sure you remove any disk from the drive before providing that firmware on a USB stick because the PS3 will first try and install any firmware update from there first (all PS3 games come with a firmware update).

If that happens you will get a corrupted data message, not a problem, it just won't install. If it's a very recent game then you might find it WILL install and you'll be stuck on a later OFW.

Then you really will be "stuck". Which was my point before about not losing your CFW by formatting, you don't. You just have to install it again.

Think of it as a cigarette, you need the whole thing to smoke. When you format you lose the tobacco, you still have the butt - at which point you can chuck some tobacco on easy enough (USB with CFW you had before on it).

If you lose the whole cigarette (Accidentally flash a 4.30 OFW for example). You lose the lot and it will only accept an OFW when you format.

Comprende?
