Even the last few phat models with the software instead of the hardware, is nearly 100% Last update of that software before they removed it was a final touch up and its playback & is 99.999% now I have the 80gb last model produced with BC, and have never! Ran into issues running any ps2 or psx games. The hardware models were 100% BC my friend has 2 and no slowdown on old games or even issues of anykind, like the software models had at first. Do some Fu ck ing research before you spout off what you think is right!

You don't need multiman or cfw to play original ps1 games on a slim.

They boot just fine directly from the xmb and even on ofw.

I agree with you about ps2 compatibility, or lack thereof on nor consoles.

The 40GB, 80GB re-release, 160GB, and the slim version of the PS3 are not backwards compatible with PS2 games because all hardware chips from the former console are omitted and there is no software emulation. However, all versions of the PS3 are able to play PS1 games.

well, i know that the "hardWIRED" (you mean hardware?) was first the EE (emotion engine) and the graphics syntheziser. after a while, they removed the graphics chip, keeping only the EE.
both of those were then removed even later, turning to full software emulation.

what are you really yelling and swearing for here? a NON-BC model can play any PS1 game! (original.)
a NON-BC model cannot play any PS2 games.
