Am sure you could add a 3.3v adaptor to the clip it's self to get your feed
just for testing lol Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk |

if u have an external psu the u have 2 wires for that power source to work 1. 3.3v 2. gnd therefore u must connect both to Y adapter or the clip dont work cos no power will be working i think u are getting confused in what i am saying but like i said i think i have said enough now in this thread ( i dont want it to turn into an argument) and for the record im an electronics engineer too

Ooo, here I go again:
The 'transistor' you speak of is a REGULATOR. Standard 3 pin device: Vin, GND, Vout. I recognize them as being LM1117-3V3 in an SOT-223 package. The datasheet for this LDO regulator suggests that it is capable of passing up to 800mA, however this is the rating of the silicon - the small package and the lack of heat-sinking (which is not even provided by increased copper around this regulator) suggests that continuous current rating would probably be under half this. P=IVdrop. So if we need 1.5A and Vdrop is 5.0-3.3 = 1.7 gives 1.7 x 1.5 = 2.55 Watts!!! In case you are wondering THAT IS A LOT for a SOT223 package. 350mA is fine though, SOT223 should be OK at 600mW. For the record, there is a simple technique where by a Power Transistor can be used to by-pass the regulator but at the same time use the regulator for it's intended job, that is to provide a REGULATED supply rail at a fixed voltage (in this case 3.3V). Anyway all of this is academic in my mind. There are some high-current 3.3V power sources already on the PS3, so why dick about (with things like ATX power supplies) when one is already there to be used. Andy |

because on most nand consoles u cant use the solderless clip on with the ps3 psu connected
ie the sem-001 has 1 nand under the psu therfore needing an external source |

^ Learn something new every day. Never bothered with all that bloody wiring and use of cr@ppy clips. I just remove the NANDs, stick 'em on a PCB for direct connection to a ProgSkeet v1.2 which until recently DID NOT WORK for me. B@st
@rd
does now though
