First of being the PS3's ability to install an operating system on the hard drive... Now this has been my biggest idea since i first seen the option when i turned on my PS3.

Now with the ability to install a completely different operating system and with so many open source operating systems out there it seems as though this would be the start if you could somehow turn off the security measures while booting. But this would also pose the problem of someone completely coding a brand new XMB into the operating system that is completely compatible with the PSN. My other idea is installing the operating system and THEN someone creating a region free emulator that installs onto the hard drive.


I'm blanking out right now but I definitely had more ideas tell me what you think of this one in the meantime.

well, im sure some1 has thought of that b4... but i like the idea! the other issue is, it sounds quite simple in writing, but making your own custom OS AND region 3 emulator? we would need teams of guys doing that.

As I see it most of everything that is being tried now will take years.

Yeah, unfortunately typing out what you want to do and actually achieving such goals are rather difficult.

To code those things, it would take time. Alot of time. More so than alot of people are willing to put in, simply to have an emulator and a new XMB. I think our best bets, as of now are to simply just find some security holes and run with them.

the bottom line is that, in time, the ps3 will be defeated. surprisingly, even Sony is aware of this. the point of all the security measures on the ps3 is not to make it completely impenetrable...as in the end, nothing is. all Sony needs to do is have its console survive its replacement phase, as when the rumors of the ps4 start buzzing out, it wont matter much anymore...

much like you can now buy new ps2 games for the price of burned copies back in the day...heck even older ps3 games are cheap now, sports ones specially which out date quickly...

they already survived two years or so.

my thoughts exactly...

and although i am a huge pirate, i mean huge, the biggest...off the books, 344 bluray movie rips and counting(im not joking), 10k+ music library and 10k+ karaoke library...i have not felt any pain buying my games.

The ps3 @ launch cost 1200 and i have at least 800 worth in games and another 200 on accessories, chargers, base, controller mod, cooling fan...etc...(crazy canada prices)

Personally i cant wait for the ps3 to be defeated. I am more interested in the homebrew...now i know people will shout linux linux, but i want naitive support, MKV support for my hd material and i want hardware acceleration and i want all that with quick painless boots into the nice XMB interface, and allll seven SPU's present.

But then again, i have a Media Center for all that, so if sony wins, ill personally deliver a Congratulations cake to their offices, as the not so bad pirate.
