All PS3's can run PS1 games from original discs and that has nothing to do with mm. On all models of PS3 mm uses the same emulator for playing cdr's.

The PS1 emulation on all PS3's is based on Virtual Game Station that Sony bought from Connectix & has nothing to do with the PS2 backward compatibility capabilities of the console.

The PSP emulation also has nothing to do with the PS2 backward compatibility.

^ That's complete tosh mate. Sony settled out of court with Connectix years ago just to prevent VGS from being distributed. The PS3 may or may not contain technology from the buyout, but you don't know if it does or not. Since you're kinda just joining the dots and guessing you shouldn't be making such explicit statements.

Much the same way as Sega bought out Steve Snake years ago to prevent work on his genesis emulator for the Dreamcast. In that case he actually went to work for Sega and emulator code was actually used and confirmed by himself.

With Connectix it was different, no staff were hired from Connectix, no details of any deal regarding physical use of the product was ever released, and in the context of the situation way back when the settlement was made it was common knowledge that Sony only made the deal to take VGS off the market.

Anything more than that is conjecture and likely a load of crap.

I would say there is mild off topic stuff here, most of it is discussing BC with the PS3 and playing backups of PSP and PSX games. Which is technically what the cobra does so therefore its not off topic at all bud ^_^
